Fuel filter

What's the recommended interval for changing a fuel filter, I can't find it mentioned in the manual.

I replaced the original half plastic one in May 2011 and have put 20,000 miles of fuel through the new one. I intend keeping this bike for a few more years so I keep on top of all the maintenance jobs but if it doesn't need doing then I'm not going to disturb the seal to get it out.

If you live in a country with clean fuel you can probably go 30,000 to 50,000 miles before changing the filter. In the US, most dispensing pumps use filters so fuel filters can go a very long time without changing. I've removed filters from EV series bikes with over 50K on them and it was still easy to blow through them, but those are larger filters.

Cheers for that, I'll leave it another couple of years, maybe at about 45 - 50,000 miles.

You're right! All I found was "fuel pipes" at 20k miles. 20k for fuel lines? that seems way to frequent. I currently have 25k miles on a Napa Gold filter, Automotive filter replacement intervals are usually 60k to 100k miles. Think I''l wait 'till next winter.

The NTX uses an all plastic filter. Nothing else fits. I pulled mine after just 15K miles and about 14 months service. The filter is yellowish but not deformed. I'm installing a new one just as soon as the part arrives. Since it is so easy to get to the NTX fuel pump, you don't even have to take the tank off, I think changing every 18-24 months is reasonable if only due to the possibility of ethanol causing the plastic to fail.

I just replaced mine on Saturday. Once the tank was off it was not hard. I did have to go and get some hose clamps ( that didn't fit ). I mad the original one work. I got an all metal filter for the replacement and it all went together pretty good.
Since the metal filter was a bit big for the opening, I had to install it on the long pipe and put it through the opening. Then I put the hose to the rest of the pump assembly.
My only other struggle was getting the tank to line up with the bolt hole on the back.

You may have trapped a pipe in the wrong position under the tank. Maybe the breather that comes up the side of the air box or the fuel pipe is up against something.
