Fuel tank storage flap problem

My pal has a 2010 Stelvio NTX, which until now has been problem free. Now however the locking flap on the small storage compartment on the right side of the fuel tank is refusing to open.
Has anyone had this happen. Any suggestions for a fix??
 
Out of gear and ignition on I guess already checked.

Is the relay/solenoid clicking?

I've taken the tank off a few times so know there's a lead to a solenoid that releases the catch. Could be fuse, a relay, a loose connection or the release cable broke.

Suggest that he pulls the covers off and takes a look, bit fiddly, small allen screws etc.

I seldom use the storage space.

We can have look on Friday/Saturday, bring some Allen keys :D Sure someone there will have a fix
