Theres heaps of great info here on fueling and the need to run less lean and in due course, i,d like to do Todd's adjustments but in the meantime'd be interested in some opinion about the liver spots on my header pipes.

I've posted a pic and would direct your attention to a purpleish patch that looks like a bruise. I've just come back from a good flogging and in the cool down inspection noticed it.

Any thoughts about why this occurs and is it a sign of greater dysfunction?i dont believe im running #68map but am getting that sussed at the next service.

Thanks very much
Rob

I think that they all do it. Some folks take the trouble to polish these things out. I see it as just part of the degradation process, between cradle and grave so to speak.

Pete is half right, it certainly has to do with the crappy grade of stainless (now for a decade +) and high exhaust temps (even with the 68 map), however it is well documented here that a little metal polish makes them go away, and they'll stay away once the fueling is sorted properly.

Thanks, i figured but had never seen it so burnt looking. Cleaning is easy enough but I was more concerned about what the inside of the motor could look like.

I use blue job to clean the pipes once a year. I don't care what the inside looks like (it's probably black)
It's beacause i don't like my pipes to look like a giraffe otherwise i could not be bothered cleaning them.
