Full/high beam?

OK, I noticed one of my full/high beam lights was out so I invested in a nice new pair of H4 bulbs and with a bit of fiddling fitted them.. BUT! when I turned on the full beam the left light (sat on the bike) still wasn't working so I went and had a look at the H4 bulb I'd taken out only to find there wasn't anything wrong with it. I took a look at the wiring and after a while I realised the bike isn't wired to run both lights on full beam.. no wiring, no female connector in the block..

So, would it be a problem to jump a wire from the live, white? (right hand side) full beam across to the the left and what would be the reason for only one being wired, will the relay handle two full/high beams?

Cheers, windy

Noticed this on AF-1 but you got pretty good responses there so I left it alone.

The high beam is relay'd and as long as you don't increase the high beam wattage I think it;ll be fine. Everyone over here has their other high beam shunted in. Anybody who rides after dark in the country has spotties and sometimes auxilliary driving lights as well in the vain hope of picking up the f'ing 'Roos, Wombats, Emus, Wallabies and other worthless mobile road-furniture that infests our countryside.

Thanks Pete, I was hoping you would reply on AF1, they are a great bunch over there but there were too many ifs and buts. I feel confident enough now to do the job. I have fitted a pair of SW Motech Fog Lamps but haven't had the chance to try them out yet.

No roos or wallabies etc over here but deer can be a problem.

Thanks and cheers, windy

Greetings, and welcome.

I have jumpered the left with the right and have no issues so far. I've heard it is possible to melt the reflectors but I've not had that problem. Much brighter lights. BTW, I also have the SW Motechs installed and they are absolutely excellent for lighting up the world around you. Bear in mind that your oncomers will be haters because of the SW M lights. I have mine angled down more than I would like but still get flashed from those coming at me. Such is life.

Bit of a mystery why Guzzi did this on the Stelvio, The Norge has both main beams wired. Both light units on the Stelvio are the same, so why would one melt and the other not?

It's obviously yet another Guzzi 'quirk'... I took the easy option and fitted a 55/100 watt bulb to the side that works high beam. Much more light and no problems.

I suspect it has to do with the height of the lamp above the ground. The Norge is lower and each beam is directed. Where as the Stelvio used the same reflector (pattern) in both beams making a double high beam too concentrated for automotive standards. Just a guess, or maybe they want you to buy their auxiliary lights.

My buddy hasn't noticed this on his Stelvio. Maybe wiring the inactive high beam with with a switch for those night rides on unlighted roads.
