G11 Bad idle when hot...

My Griso 1100 had been running great lately - then yesterday I get it out in the morning and starts right up no problems, runs great and I make a stop. It's 85 degrees out and the bike is sitting in a driveway in the sun. About 45 minutes later I go to start the Griso up and it only starts up with some throttle... then it won't idle - kept stalling out. I held the throttle at about 1500 for a a minute of so and the bike finally figured things out and idled fine after that. Well, same thing today - after stopping for an hour or so I get back on the bike only starts with the throttle open and refuses to idle at all for some time. After a bit it runs fine again....

I am thinking head temp sensor? air intake sensor? the only other thing I can think of that was disturbed lately was that I had pulled the cam position sensor to stop it from leaking oil - I replaced all the shims and put a little RTV around the o-ring.

Any ideas?

Hey Uncle
Any "tank suck" sound when the filler cap is opened?
This was a common problem on mine until the evap cannister was removed. If no can on the system, check the vent hoses for kinks

Good one... I'll check that out - the canister removal has been on my to do list.

I did check and there were none... (I was hoping it might show something but no such luck).

There was a complete thread on this on the old board. Sitting in the sun messes up the temperature sensors. The computer thinks everything is warmer than it is. I have the same problem with my Breva in the summer. I just nurse it along until the actual temperatures match what the computer is reading. If there was an actual "fix" for this I don't remember it.

If I park mine in the sun, it thinks its warmed up, until it is warmed up and wont idle. Parked it in the shade and cured the problem, could be that simple

I've got the same problem. Go for a good run, shut down and if it's hot out then I have trouble starting and idling. In the past I've just idled with throttle on for a minute or two, but the problem seems to be getting worse.

Then...

... I googled Griso recall and I found out that this has been a big problem all around...

The recall covers the known problem of the fuel line coming off in the tank (easy fix).
To my knowledge, this is not intermittent, the bike stops running completely:(

If the problem is rough idle when engine is hot... its a whole different problem

The reason I mention this, is my Griso's fuel line failed 2 years ago. The rough starting & idling problem happened to me with the New fuel pump installed and have pretty well stopped since I rerouted the evap system.
Of course... I live in Minnesota and riding on Hot days is really not as frequent as what some of you enjoy;)

We don't often have this problem in england!

From what i understand you folks often don't have the problem of running on dry roads either. ;)

And that comes from a guy who lives where roads are ice covered for 5 months of the year.... LOL
