Just got it firing!
Well I guess I should stop trolling and start posting! I'm Chris from Davenport, IA. I bought my first Guzzi, a one-owner '98 EV (then with 29,100 miles, now with 31,xxx) from Jim at Ned's Auto and Cycle in Riverside about 2 months ago at the end of April. He was selling it for a customer of his who had no luck with it in the paper for a month. Apparently he brought it to Jim on a Thursday: well, that following day I went in to talk to Jim about the V7 Classic and by the time I left, I had a deposit down on the EV after scoping it out and taking it for a test ride (with no intentions or even thoughts on a purchase when I was on my way there with a buddy just to BS with Jim for a while lol). So no bites in the paper after a month, and sold after not even 1 full day at Ned's. Talk about your good decisions!
The previous owner (name withheld) kept the bike in tip-top shape and worked on the thing himself when possible, and after stopping by his home to pick up the owners manual and maintanence papers that he'd forgotten to include with the bike (no biggy, just an excuse for me to talk with another Guzzi lover) and BS'ing with him for a bit about the bike, I knew I'd made the right choice on the purchase. Plus, Jim was selling it: like I ever even had a reason for doubt? He's exactly the person you want when it comes to the highest customer service and care.
As for modifications, the bike was bone stock when I got it besides some nice aftermarket seats and HB hardbags. As you can tell from the pics, right away I bought and installed the taller (and matching texture from the seats) backrest and replaced the stock mirrors with the modern ones. I also took off the honker of a windscreen (still have it in the garage), although it made the hour+, 47* and rainy ride home from Ned's at night, quite pleasant. I was dry and not even cold.
I have the FBF airbox mod and filter on the way, and plan on the Stucchi H-pipe, LaFranconi Comp mufflers, PCIII and then getting it dyno-tuned to get some nice sound, power, and smoothness out of the bike. I also wanna do a few dress-up mods to make it a little more personal. Nothing major, but tasteful. I have the neoprene fork seal guards to put on yet (minute, yes, but purposeful and IMO they look great after I saw them on a '99 Bassa). I'm also trying to find a pair of gold valve covers and black head gaurds. Haven't seen that combo yet, but I think it'd look great with the rest of the bike. Oh, and it needs a new tach lol.
But so far, I freakin' love this thing. Every mile so far has been nothing but a smile and I can't wait to add thousands more, although finding time is difficult now and then. Where on my 636 I'm happiest when hanging off the bike mid-corner (although I still love touring on the bike), I'm happy at any pace, on any road on the Goose (no highway/interstates though, just backroads/county roads when possible: I'm as anti-slab as they come lol).
Between both bikes, I'm one happy camper! I look forward to learning as much about the awesome brand and my own bike as I can.
