Hello everyone,
I was following the forum for a while.
I'am located in Turkey / İstanbul and I have recently bought a V7 Racer.

IMG 5249

The bike is 2011 model and have only 2000km's.

But ı have a question on my mind;

The bike is not idling best (as it feels).Bike's making me feel like its unstable on revving up. I have read couple of posts about similar issues on the forum but ı still wanted to ask :)
(I feel like the bike is not running as its best)

Thanks,
Selim

Dear Faisal,
Thank you for the reply,

First, I would rather to find a cheaper solution :) , but ı have reflash tool on my mind.
I'am really looking forward to find a cheaper solution to fix the issue. (as tps reset etc. by the service)
I wanted to ask you guys to make sure about the issue before the service :)

By the way, ı just get in touch with the previous owner.
And he said that the problem accured after the gas tank replacement (he have changed it due to rust issues approx 1 week ago)

Help please :(

Usually the old fuel pump assembly is re-used when a tank is replaced. There could be an issue with the fuel pump caused by the tank replacement. First item I would check is the pressure regulator. Fuel pressure in the system should be about 3 bar, or 45 PSI.

I would ask if the fuel filter was replaced. If there was a rust problem with the tank and it was internal the filter may be full of rust. Since it is a 2011 it may have the fuel filter that is half plastic. If so you need to replace it before it fails though they probably last longer in Turkey as you may not have ethanol in your fuel. Also since it is a 2011 with only 2000km's you may want to run a few tanks of some sort of fuel system cleaner through it though I am not sure what brands you have. Sea Foam and Techron seem to be the preferred over here.

Welcome Selim! I agree with Rudy and John. Your issues are probably related to the tank replacement. The rust in the old tank may have damaged the fuel pump and/or loaded the filter with rust which alter the fuel flow and pressure, and eventually stop the bike if there is enough rust in the system. The most likely candidate for checking is the fuel filter and hopefully you can confirm with the previous owner whether or not it was replaced when the tank work was done. In any case, like the pic of your Racer.

Previous owner told me that they have also changed the filter but I'll need to check If they have replaced it with half-plastic ones.

Today I also visited a dealer and explain the issue.
The guy at the service take a tour with the bike and he also said that the engine is not running stable.

He connected the bike to laptop and the problem seems like its on Oxygen Sensor.
They asked me to leave the bike over there, tomorrow they'll call and inform me about the issue.

Hope to get my bike back as soon as possible :)

Dear All,

Yesterday, the tech guys have connected the bike to laptop and o2 Sensor was the only value that is not changing (while revving the bike) - It was stuck on '1' and the guy said that its a fault.

Half an hour ago, they called me back and tell that the stable '1' value read by the connection is normal and the valves are not looking good. I really don't know what to do, I kind of insisted about o2 sensor but they are telling me that the sensor is running well.

The bike is only on 2000km and the engine has never opened before, is it possible to have a fault on valves?
They said that they have cleaned and adjusted the valves, and the bike is better than yesterday.

But they are also telling that it's not running well.
Dont know what to do :/

Hate to say this but it looks like you are heading down a bad road with the dealer.
Please call the dealer & ask them to stop working on the bike!

If they are telling you they "cleaned" the valves then we have an issue. The only way to clean the valves would be to pull the heads.
They may have adjusted the valves & that is OK but don't let them go any further.

If the tank had rust in it then you need to start there & follow the path of the fuel: Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel hose to injectors.
There is a good chance the injectors are crudded up with very fine rust particles.

Fuel pump needs to be checked for flow & pressure, all fuel lines should be flushed or replaced & injectors pulled & tested/cleaned.

We know the bike had a rusty tank & was replaced because of that so we need to clean up that mess before creating problems that probably don't exist.

If there computer test showed ECU & sensors are working correctly then the issue is a mechanical one & we already know of one problem; Rusty Tank.

Dear All,

Hope all is well.
Last week the tech guys on authorised dealer told that the valves are not running well (not sure if its true..)

And they handed back my bike due to the workload in there.
But the bike is worse than before, now I'm looking for a new mechanic and hope to find a good one.

Now-the bike is feeling like left side of the engine is not running and the engine light came on :/

You need to find another Guzzi specialist. Is there only the one dealer in Istanbul? There may be an independent garage with the necessary experience and equipment. Check it out on google. There is a Turkish Guzzi Facebook site. Some of the posts there might help.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to finding another Guzzi Specialist. But thats not be authorised dealer or sth. I'll also check Turkish forum btw

v7newbie,

I had this exact problem with my Buell Thundebolt about ten years ago, with the same miles as you. The culprit was a clogged fuel injector. One cylinder was not getting enough fuel and the bike would run rough, with that cylinder also running too hot. It took a trip to dealer and the right technician to properly diagnose the problem. Once the injectors were replaced, no more problems. This was caused by the bike sitting too long without being used. I tried fuel injector cleaner, resetting the TPS, replacing the oxygen sensor, replacing the air temp sensor, new spark plugs, etc., but in the end, it was a simple clogged injector. This might be your solution.

Great looking bike.

Dale

No need to replace the injector, have it cleaned by a diesel shop, or in the states I use rceng.com

I recently meet new friend that he's been riding Guzzi's for years. He reccomend a local mechanic. I'm planning to visit him as soon as possible.

Please give him the history on the bike, especially about the rusty tank. It will help.
You may also want to ask him to review this thread.
Hope it goes well.

Dear all,

Hope all is well.
Things are not getting better on my side :worried:

I left my bike to an authorized dealer on the weekend. And they recently called me;

The mechanic guy told me that the left side of the engine (left cylinder) is not running well.

-I was also expecting the same thing, because ı had a test last week;
I took left side of the engines plug cable and the engine did not even changed it's sound. But when I take out the cable on the right, the engine stopper right away
-Also please note that they told me that they have checked most of the electronic cables etc.

Now they are asking for opening up the engine to figure out the problem and ı don't know what to do.

I recently read stuff about engine tab setting (I'm not sure if thats the english expression of it but thats the thing which is balancing the cylinders)

In conclusıon;
Authorised Dealer is telling me that they have to open up the engine to have that setting-and they don't have any part if needed :oops:

Seriously don't know what to do..

Have they said if it has spark on that cylinder? First thing I figure if pulling the plug wire makes no difference. Have they done a leak down test or compression test? If they can't answer any of the above and they want to pull apart the engine it is time to find a new mechanic.
