Gidday, Home from an awesome rally yesturday, unpacked and took a couple of pics of the dash to record the km's travelled for some info.
Then washed the bike, dried, and then started to put away.
All worked apart from the dash display was blank????

Anyone had any issue similer and what was done to resolve.
I only was with hose and bucket of water with sponge/soap. And towel dry. Never had this issue before.

before I go pulling things apart, thought it best to see if anyone had similer drama and what was done.

The RED triangle is glowing as well, but cant look at anything as cant access the menu.

Cheers

P.S and the spanner on the first pic, is only because I did not reset it at the 70k service

I don't think it's the speedo sensor unless it has a shot circuit or something like that. I had a faulty speedo sensor and it just gave a general warning to seek service ( room service?) I hope it's something small or that it will just mend itself. Good luck

Mine goes blank, freezes at a range of speeds, even inverts the display until I key reset. All through a Perth summer. Definitiely no water involved. I presume it can be the sensor itself at times.

There were a batch of speedo sensor wires that were one solid strand instead of multiple threaded wire, these were more prone to cracking, I had one but was able to fix it and seal it with magic aerospace sealing snot, worked on Pete's bikes too....

Gee pleased I a relaxed take it as it comes guy, have not had a chance to look back at it... in detail, just turned key on after two days and all this talk just made me jump out to the garage in my pj's. The issue is now, nothing, the dash is fine... the problem is I guess water got into somthing, it is the first time it has ever happened, so it has to be somthing to do with water without a doubt....hate issues that are intermitent... now the question, wash the bike in sections and see if the issue comes up, or just ignore it. :?

Either of three things happened, I suppose:
a. the dash computer failed to start, hence no display, no functions in general
b. the LCD panel's own computer failed to start hence no display but functions were working fine in the background
c. the LCD panels driving circuitry got wet, same condition as b.

A wet sensor WILL cause a blank screen.

Is also the tacho dead as well in such a case?
I do not know if the dash computer controls all functions or there are separate micro controller chips for the tacho and indicator leds. If there is one computer for the whole dash, then it has been an LCD display problem alone as the tacho seems to have been working so no (a) condition.
Conditions (c) can easily happen: the LCD driving circuitry works by applying voltage to the LCD panel - the actual current flowing is so small (microamps) that condensation related drop of air insulation resistance can easily cause shorts that prevent the driving circuitry from functioning properly.

I'd suggest getting the sensor at the back wheel well soaked to diagnose if the problem resides there or at the dash enclosure.

Tacho will still function fine if the sensor has failed due to water intrusion.

This is absolutely classic symptoms and circumstances for failure due to water in the sensor. Address the obvious, well known issue before embarking on a whole host of 'Sky is Falling' scenarios.

I always cover my speedo with a plastic bag when washing :geek:

Covering the speedo might stop it misting, but the speedo sensor is on the carc, and it`s this that gives the problem. There`s been many a speedo sensor fix on this forum.

Mine must have been made on a good day cause i get under the CARC and scrub that area with a brush

Mine did this. What seemed to cure the problem was to undo the connector on the left of the headstock (think it was the left), dry it all out, clean with switch cleaner and reconnect.
