Griso front fender/mudguard removal

I just got a fenda extenda from Pyramid Plastic. I was thinking to remove the fender from the bike so that I can drill some holes for allen head bolts and nyloc nuts (I don’t like the self tapping screws that came with the kit) and seal the fender-fenda gap with sealant.

I have tried to free the fender by removing the 4 bolts securing it on the brake brackets but was unable to remove the fender from the bike, it got stuck between the forks.

Is there a trick to remove the fender without taking out the wheel?

I've never done it, but if you can't lift and pivot to one side or the other and remove without damaging the finish, one of the fork legs would have to be removed. Typically you can get them out without fork removal.

With the front wheel and brake calipers out of the way, it seems there will be enough clearance to pivot the fender 90 degree to the side, rotate around one of the fork legs and remove it.

I have a Griso lifter, is the sump strong enough if I place something underneath it to support the bike while lifting the front wheel off the ground? TheMuffinMan’s punctured sump scare the shit out of me.

My pleasure and very good... and yes the pan is plenty strong enough. Best to use a stack of wide(r) wood blocks underneath, IMO.
 
I just lifted and twisted the guard out with the wheel still in, didn't mark the finish at all
