groan noise on take off

Some Stelvio's didn't make it, I did a 13' right before retiring and the fix was a Cali 14 clutch, so it's all OK---maybe---

I heard a similar noise on my 850T and LMV years ago. It seemed the same as the noisy/squeaky-when-cold clutch that my Ducati 750GT had run into some years before that, so I applied the same fix. I removed the clutch actuating lever at the back of the transmission and the initial pusher piece, then squirted a bit of chain lube into the clutch lifting rod's tunnel. Never heard the noise again.

I don't know if this is the same issue on the 1400 clutch throwout mechanism, but on the LMV and 850T (and Ducati before that) it was caused by the dry metal contact of the clutch rod. As the transmission/engine warms up and the pieces change lengths, it seems to go away, but to me the right solution seemed to be additional lubrication: although these bits are running in the gearbox which is full of oil, very little oil ever gets into the clutch lifter rod's tunnel through the transmission main shaft. Chain lube is a good lubricant for this as it is designed to stick around on hot surfaces and not sling off after it sets up.

The one I fixed had 37Kmi on it and the spring clip on the clutch plate centering cone(or what ever they call it) came off causing the whole thing to sit in there crooked causing the little springs to come out, all of it was ground up.
I believe that clip spring was not in it's groove completely from the factory. It had been crooked for a long time cause the the rod going through the trans had made a wear spot off center.
