60 Companies work for the super Guzzi

The network created by Guzzi for the development of the new California 1400 includes 21 companies in the county of Lecco who make parts for the bike aimed conquering the American market.

The Guzzi California? Fantastic, and, thanks to this model Moto Guzzi is preparing to invade the USA market. Exactly how it did it at the end of the 1960’s with the California Ambassador, “great grandmother” of the new creation that actually became the official state police motorcycle of it’s namesake.

Today, the company is preparing the big launch. To learn more we went to see how it was designed and who were the local companies that are going to make parts for it: an important stimulus for the local economy.

We discovered that there are at least 60 parts subcontractors in the province of Lombardy alone. Of the 60 vendors making parts just for the Guzzi California 1400, twenty one are in Lecco. New vendors along with the legendary ones are working together to produce the components to be assembled on the new generation Guzzi.

High Quality
An example is at Alfaplast of Missaglia where raw plastic material is arriving; Domino at Sirtori is making the grips and levers for the California. In Abbadia, Elbe Italia developed incredible dynamic transmissions while other high-precision mechanical designs are being signed off by Pietro Gaddi also in Abbadia and by Sergio Gaddi of Mandello.
When you talk of cylinders, there is only one name, that of Gilardoni of Mandello from whose windows you can look directly into the Moto Guzzi factory. Two inseparable names that are the pride and joy for the Lecco region on a global level.

Specialization

At home we have companies like Lafranconi (they’ve make exhausts that have linked them to the house of the Guzzi eagle for decades); Giuseppe Lafranconi (making precision parts for the frame and transmission), and Attilio and Luigi Lafranconi (machining high grade metals).
Moving over to Lecco from Mandello we have the Riva Company that furnishes bushings and washers for tooling while in Mandello there is the prestigious Metalmonga for quality control. For the flexible tubing, Moto Guzzi depends on TMF in Castello Brianza.
In the engine all the bushings, spacers, washers and mounts are furnished by Erre in Mandello. VML in Brivio paints the metal parts, a very tedious job. The polishing of the cosmetic parts like the foot controls, silencers, engine covers etc is done by Sapazzadeschi. Sime furnishes transmission and frame parts as does Rompani in Abbadia. Moioli produces the frames and supports for the saddlebags, windshield, sidestand and foot controls.
Meroni stamps out aluminum and steel for the foot controls and frame plates. BLRN assembles and balances the wheels while other important hardware comes from Iro in Oggiono that, only for Moto Guzzi, makes the throttle and clutch controls.
