Has anyone tried to mount highway pegs?

I am having a fit trying to find the right sized clamp for highway pegs to fit the Moto Guzzi engine guards.

Moto Guzzi says they are 1 1/8" diameter (below). Mine are not!

So, I guessed that maybe the previous owner put on the Hepco & Becker version which claim to be 1 1/4" diameter (below).

Okay, so my engine guards are not 1 1/8" diameter and they are not 1 1/4" diameter. Is there another source that is 1 3/16" diameter (30mm) that I don't know about?

So far I have one set of 1/1/8 Kuryakyn Quick-Clamps and one set of 1 1/4" Kuryakyn Quick-Clamps.

1 1/8" is too small, 1/1/4" is too large. Assuming I DO have the MG engine guards* could I simply be facing a case of POOR QUALITY CONTROL on the part of Moto Guzzi accessories?

This is frustrating...

*I DO believe I have the MG version engine guards since I got the sales reciept and installation instructions for them with the bike.

They are metric so I bought kuryakin pegs and added a rubber strip as a shim

So much for truth in advertising. As you can see they are marketing them as 1 1/8" diameter.

I guess, I'll use the 1 1/4" clamps and shim them. I have some copper shim stock that I can cut, but I was looking at the aluminum duct tape I have in the basement. It has adhesive on it and I was thinking I could just build up the necessary thickness inside the quick-clamps.

It is just the rounding of metric to SAE. They apparently rounded to the closest 1/8". I work on mostly metric machinery all the time at work yet the engineers at the plant do everything in SAE so you would not believe how often they have stuff made that doesn't quite fit.

Can anyone tell me what model of Kuryakin grips would best fit on my Cali 1400? Thanks!
Roland, to my knowledge the Iso Grips are not an option on the Cali1400. The special tube needed to run the dual cable unit that signals the fly by wire throttle is included with the grips from Guzzi, & Aprilia. When I replaced my large Cali 1400 grips with the smaller ones off the 2015 Capanord I got the tuba and grip already mounted together. There may be an aftermarket grip like iso grips or rizoma that MIGHT fit the unique tube on the guzzi, but only trial and error will tell. When I looked a year ago, I found nothing in the aftermarket that would work...that said there may be some now.

I wonder why the cables are nec. on a bike with fly by wire....just kind of curious
The cables are routed to an electronic control box mounted on top of the gas tank. Seems odd that the cables couldn't be eliminated and the electronic control be right there on the handlebars. But for some reason they engineered it this way.

I would like to see someone actually using highway pegs on their California. I'm almost 6'4" and I don't see anyway to get my legs around the heads to reach them.

No pictures, but I have them and use them! I am 6' tall and find that I easily get my legs around the cylinders. Since you are taller toy may need the pegs located a little farther forward than I do, but that should only make it easier to get your legs around the cylinders.

I bought a sheet of brass, cut it into a strip, and wrapped it around the engine guard. Then I put the clamp on for the highway peg.

I tried some brass shim stock before I used the rubber strip as a shim. While the brass shim worked, when I pressed a little too much on the pegs they would rotate. So far, using the rubber, no slippage.

I have been thinking about trying to source some passenger foot rests and machining some brackets to make them into highway pegs. at least they would match the bike. I wonder how hard it would be to find a set?
