I purchased a 2012 Norge GT 8V two weeks ago with 26000 miles. I was able to ride it for one week but now the headlight fuse blows every time the bike starts. The first night I rode home from work when I dimmed the lights I had no low beams, they eventually came back on. I replaced the high/low relay and it was fine the rest of the week. The next week I went to go to work and I had no lights at all. I checked and the main headlight fuse was blown so I replaced it and it immediately blew. I replaced the other headlight relay and put in a new battery with the same results. After I start the bike the fuse blows instantly, if I start the bike and then insert the fuse the engine pulls down with a load and then the fuse blows. I have not torn the bike completely apart yet because I wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else to help narrow my search down.

Check the wiring at the bulbs themselves. There was a “recall” of sorts on the wiring harness/jumper on the older 2v Norges there.

After racking my brain on what might be the problem I think I figured it out. I replaced the headlight bulbs with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. That has been the only thing I have changed. I put the old bulbs back in and so far so good. I would not have thought it would be the bulbs since they show to be the same wattage but it appears to be the culprit.

You're right the same wattage bulbs wouldn't make the fuse blow. I'd say you've just temporarily cured the wiring issue that Todd describes above. Not doubt it will return sooner or later.

Well so far so good, have ridden the last two nights to work without a glitch. Thanks for the replies, still in the process of learning what to look for and what is normal on the Norge.
