My Stornello has been ailing. Suffering from the ubiquitous 3K RPM stumble and gag.
The bike had been running great... Todd's map fixed the cold bloodedness and snatchy low speed throttle. Then, suddenly it started popping and gagging.

The poor run-ability corresponded with the wet weather of fall and winter. Must be the common spark plug boot issue. A set of NGK plugs and boots failed to improve matters. Ah, the factory spec disintegrating fuel filter. Soon swapped with an all metal unit, the vent check valve bypassed for good measure... still no dice.

Then, in a moment of clarity I used the Guzzi Tech tool to read codes. Sure enough - my Lambda sensors were unhappy. After five minutes of un-tucking the leads, then unplugging - the Guzzi was exorcised. Pulling smoothly through the previously grim RPM range. Tonight I'll yank those suckers off and toss them into the "return to stock" box. Find a suitable stubby bolt to fill the holes, and ride off into a slightly less environmentally friendly sunset.

Seemed prudent to document my mini adventure as searching turned up a legion of poorly running V7's with many, many ideas - less solved cases.

Your plan is not the best way to deal with your issue.

Seeing as how you have Todds fueling system, I would contact him directly. He will guide you correctly.

I suppose the lambda should be turned off in the map ? I'll check with Todd.

In the meantime it's rideable... a win compared to what I had.

Had a break in the PNW weather, and sadly the girl's still sick. No power above 3500 whatsoever.

Next step is to load guzzidiag and see what I can glean from that. In the meantime my Bonnie runs great... damn Italian :-(

STRONGLY Not advised.

Did you contact Todd directly for assistance as you have his fueling package?

Stop guessing and get professional help. I know that Todd stands behind his work.

I'll be out there -- Edmonds -- next week.

As most everyone here knows, I'm hardly a wrench, but, as a fellow Stornellite, happy to commiserate in person.

That's less than the altruistic (albeit pretty worthess) offer it may seem, as I am looking for excuses to get away from grand-baby-sitting. :giggle:

Perhaps I'm guilty of thinking out loud and should've kept that part in my head.

My experience with "professional help" hasn't been all that satisfactory and I'm the type of home tinkerer that'll eventually figure it out with help from forums, friends...

Last night I felt compelled to do something I should've done at the very beginning - check the air box. Turns out the paper filter is completely saturated and a placid pond of oil lay at the bottom. So despite my best efforts to heed multiple oil level warnings, I overfilled it during the last change.

The overfilling happened to correspond with exceptionally wet weather - and the variables became mired in a sort of throw everything at it orgy of repair. Good news is I'm sure the new filter will fix the strangled engine and the stuff I fixed were known issues.

Appreciate the thoughts and responses fellow Guzzi guys... and Bill, are you the one I'm always passing out in the Duvall area ? Here I thought I'd never see another Stornello !

Thanks for the offer Bill. Seems like I may have it sorted by then,

Do you have a club or fellow riders in the area ? I've only recently returned to riding and it'd be fun to meet fellow enthusiasts !
