Indicated mileage (kilometreage) verification possible?

I have read various problems of water in the digital instruments requiring replacement or of random mileage resets.
Is there any way to verify the indicated mileage?
Maybe some ECU readings like "turned on hours" or any special switch procedures?
Any way to verify original instruments replacement by newer ones? Any SN numbers related?
Any ideas?

Are there any datasheets about the link between the ECU and the dash Instruments?
I have the technical know how to look into such stuff (...when I get the bike) but if any data is available about the digital parts of the bike I would love to lay my eyes on them!

Dealers and service agents are told didly-squat about such stuff, If anything goes Udders Skywards we are simply told to replace it, We aren't allowed to know how anything works,

Well, given the opportunity...
Any idea if CANBUS is implemented like on the Beemers? Does not seem so on the parts list.
Is there a pinging sensor for the ECU to retard ignition advance? Similarly, no sensor seem to be on the parts list.
What is the small cable going along the rear brake hydraulic line? The speedometer sensor maybe? Operating on wheel gear?
If so, is the dash calibrated for rear tyre differences?

(If thread gone too far no problem to have it edited).

I don't know about the comm between dash and ecu.
There is NO knock sensor (wish there was).
The small cable is to the speedo sensor that measures pulses as the rear wheel is spinning. The ecu counts the pulses and calculates the speed based on a set value for the diameter of the rear tire. Changing the size/diameter of the rear wheel can alter the reading shown on the display.
