Hello;

Came back from a quick ride from the office to home.. Parked the bike and heard this noise... Got out the sound isolator and located that it seems to be coming from the battery.... thoughts????

https://www2.dropbox.com/home/Public/guzzi%20noise

Turn the volume UP.... I had to put my iphone right on the battery ....

Thanks

The link goes to a sign in on my end.

Thanks for the post on the Access code being the same as the 1200 2V.

Same here. I was signed in to dropbox, but it indicated an empty folder called "Guzzi Noise". Not sure if this was on my dropbox or yours, Sam.

sounds like a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) type signal. Do you have it on a charger?

Q1. How old is the battery?
Q2. What sort of amp/volt reading are you getting on the dash?
Q3. Have you tested the charging system?

The reason I ask these questions, modern batteries are sealed. They have internal pressure regulators etc.
Never heard one sing before, but I am deaf. :)
If your bike was overcharging the battery it could boil itself dry, and croak.

HI.. Thanks

1. the battery is brand new (the bike only has 750 miles on it)
2. Haven't looked whist running... Off the voltage ready 12.3
3. Will do so this morning....

Wildguzzi had the same thinking that it may be the battery overcharging...

Thanks for thinking this through...

Sam,

Are you sure it isn't coming from the ABS controller? It could make this type of noise.

Hi John;

So, the ABS system is quiet! That is what I suspected at first.

This noise is clearly coming from the Left Rear (as you face forward) corner of the battery. I haven't pulled to cover off the battery holder..

Have a couple of things to do this morning, and then I'm going to start with the voltage reg.. Also, find the vent for the battery to see if it's is cramped.

Hello ALL;

So, it is not the Voltage Regulator.. .Just ran a test...

Voltage at battery 14.1 at idle, 14.1 at 3000 rpm, 14.1 at 6000 rpm

Measured both on Dash and by FET VM...

Have to get the bike HOT again to see if it returns.

Thanks to all for the suggestions .

If you think it's the battery, can you remove it and try to replicate the conditions on the bench? This might confirm it is the battery for sure?

You might also find a family of crickets behind the battery when you remove it. :lol:

Hi Dave;

I am beginning to suspect our 'old friend' the evap canister.... I have to get it spun up again so see if I can make it do the sound again, then pop the gas cap and see if the pressure relieves... If it does.. The evap canister is HISTORY!
