This just doesn't look right, Is this really my engine oil dipstick?

What bike is it from.

Looks about the right location, but the cotter pin is not stock......

Have heard of the pull loop breaking on some bikes. Perhaps that is what happened and the previous owner rigged it with the cotter pin????

This is a brand new Stelvio, it had 3 miles on it when I picked it up last Thursday.

Then you have yourself a problem. I also have a 2012 Stelvio and that is not stock. My guess is they broke the finger loop on their initial inspection and retro fit a cotter pin. I can post a picture of mine if you like as a comparison??? If you look in your manual you will see an illustration of it.

Think you need to have a long talk with your dealership.......

I think you are right. I need to have a talk with them. Could you post a pic of yours?

Ask them to check the oil when the engine is hot. Think they will get the idea when they burn their fingers... :woohoo:

Hell, I have alomost burned my fingers with just the loop....a hot cotter pin.....not likely. Not to mention trying to get past the exhaust......

I called the salesman this morning and sent him a pic of the dipstick. About an hour later I got a call from the service manager letting me know that they were aware of it and had one ordered. I guess they found it when they took the bike out of the crate but the salesman forgot to mention it.
I was happy that the SM took the time out to call me. You have to love a dealership where the Service Manager's first name is "Massimo!"
