So I cut the wires leading to the original tailight and marked which color does what. I installed the lucas style tail light and new style turn signals and soldered the wires and shrink wrapped everything and reinstalled the fender. All the wires worked when I tested them (which is how I knew what color did what) .... now I only have brake light. I removed the fender and wire pigtail (I tried to do it factory style) and have traced the problem to the bike and not what I have done.(I've triple checked the color code) The two connectors that lead back to the tailgiht and turn signals won't light (except brake) when checking with an idiot light (yes checked the idiot light to make sure its working) I chekced the fuses and the are all OK, where else should I look? any sugestions?
 
Has the lamp unit got a genuine ground connection? Try adding a temporary wire from the battery negative to the lamp unit to see if this is the problem.
 
Yes ran seperate ground. The problem seems to be on the bike side of the two connectors that you unhook to remove the fender.
