I have a 2014 Cal 1400 touring. I was looking at oil filters in came across the K&N HP-1002 it cross refs with the Bosch 3330. The K&N also has a 1" nut on the bottom for easy removal. Has any one here used one of these or have any info about them?

I have used them for a few motor vehicles, but not on a Guzzi to my recollection.
I think they are a high quality filter, but you can get the same filter without the nut for a few bucks less. I think it is a pretty good filter, certainly good enough for a Guzzi. But there are better filters.
One word of warning. If you get the one with the nut on it, do not use the nut to tighten the filter. Only use the nut to remove the filter. In my experience, if you use the nut at all to install the filter it will cause possible rust issues. The powder coat / paint covering the filter cracks where the nut is spot welded on and that can quickly lead to rust. I have had one of these rust through to where it leaked. I was sent a free replacement after sending them pics of the filter. Good customer support on their part for that. But I think they need to stress better to customers not to use the nut during installation.

A company called Champion seems to makes most of the higher quality filters. They also make the Mobil M1 filter as I understand it. There is also Wix, and the NAPA Gold line. Right now there are a number of companies jumping into the oil filter market. Some are worth their premium price and others maybe not so much. Pay attention to where the filter is made, brands often change suppliers to increase profits. I won't use a filter made in China or some third world country. No disrespect to them, and that does not mean filters that are not made there are automatically good. But there is an element of trust, plus researching the brand you choose.
I don't want to start a "my filter is better than your filter" thread. There are lots of good filter brands out there. I have been known to cut a filter open to see how it is made before using one. Sacrificing an oil filter for confidence in that filter is money well spent. To me, saving a couple bucks on an oil filter is stupid. But that is just me. The best thing you can do is research it and take what everyone says, including myself, with a grain of salt.

There are definitely some good oil filters and some not so good. Past comments on a number of sources have indicated that some K&N filters have had good media and construction but may have had issues with their pressure relief. Another thing is that there are distinct differences between brands that may come out of the same factory or overall corporate entity - for example, Champion's named filters are basic units, but the Mobil1 units they make are noticeably different quality (you can decide whether they are 'better').

When available for my fitments, I use Mobil1 or PureOne filters. That's not to say there aren't other good ones, that's just what I choose to use. My bikes are used for both everyday riding and for Ironbutt long-distance. My Norge has over 100k miles; my V-Strom 1000 (for which only crappy filters are available) lasted 137k before a non-oil related failure, so the filter is just one part of a complex equation.

Thank You Again ITSec And GuzziMoto, I had been unable to ride for 2 years but back in the saddle again and trying to make up for lost time. I've had my Cal 1400 tour for two months and have 2000 miles on it. It is a great bike and just want to take care of my new baby. I'm looking forward to Spring and many more miles but now that I'm older I like doing those miles on back roads with no time tables you know like stopping just to see what the hell is the Thing in all those roadside signs.
