Hi guys, new to the forum! Over the next few months I will be starting a build on an 1100 California that I will be be converting to Keihin FCR41 carbs.

I have the carbs already (and have made some bell mouths!) and have been doing some reading and find that quite a few people have gone down this path before... I wondered if anyone would share what jets and needles you used in the carbs? I would be particularly interested to hear what one of the kits you can buy have in them...

The proper jetting of carburetors is a tricky undertaking.

In my shop, I have a gas analyzer which allows me to get tailpipe readings realtime.

I also have an AFR system which allows me to put a small tap bung in the bottom of an exhaust pipe, anywhere I wish, (usually about 12” downstream from the head) and get realtime readouts as well.

Without knowing precisely you are doing to your engine, the exhaust, your elevation, etc, I feel you will not find an established setup.

Best to work initially with what you get as standard setup with the carbs, then get readings from dynamic running of the exhaust, and adjust accordingly.

It’s going to be a fair amount of work for sure so be prepared.

I agree it can be tricky... But what I found when doing the Ducati EFI to carbs conversions I have done in the past is that its better to start as close as you can... On the Ducati forums lots of people share their engine specifications and setup, and the jets they and needles they use, which then makes it easier.

If I could find someone willing to share the information from one of the kits fitted to the 1100 standard engine, that would be a good start point for me. 👍

I am in luck! A kind guy on one of the facebook forums I am on just messaged me with what I wanted to know!

I asked him if it was OK to share his information and he said its fine, so this may help other people out!

He is running a standard 1100 engine, foam air filters, free flowing exhausts and he is running 41mm FCR carbs, After a session on the rolling road, these are the setting he left with... He said the bike runs fantastic!

152 mains

200 main air

55 slow fuel

Slow air jet 1 turn out

Fuel screw 1 turn out

ELS needle 4th groove from the top

He said he started out with 155 mains, and an EMT needle, and it ran very well, but the ELS needle improved things.

Hope this helps, its good to share info!

Was wondering if you have any info on the needle jet itself as versus the needle ?
Or is that what you referred to with the 200 main air ? Thanks , Peter
