From our Italia friend Ennio;
Latest news from Mandello, I was passed by there a week ago during a bank holiday byke trip, a little cold mind you. They have almost finished pulling down most of the old factories walls behind the facade. By the summer a new factory will be built and delivered for local production, so Mandello will not lose one of the major motorbike brands in the world. Surely it is going to be different...in the old days they used to do everything there starting from electricity (internal generators driven by a water fall) down to foundries, to all nuts and bolts, painting, chroming, etc. Motoguzzi in Mandello being part of the larger Piaggio group is just one of the production sites, engineering, design, development etc can be done where skills and resources are. The prototypes I saw in Milan during the EICMA fair where realy exciting, the Lemand I saw there is the next MG I am going to buy!

As per Motoguzzi real estate development I advise you to keep an eye on google earth, Latitude 45°54'57.04"N - Longitude 9°19'25.63"E. That's were currently you see factory roofs, in reality I am told they are building the new factory to be finished by next summer. From the outside you don't see anything because they are keeping the facade and the museum building as it is. Keep you posted as I learn more.

That's nice of you Ennio, because it's way to cold to visit Mandello on the Guzzi at the moment.... ;)
Ciao Dolf.

Grazie Mille Ennio... direct link to Google Maps HERE

Picture below is from Alis Agostini, dated Marzo 6, 2010 - so it's not looking like the buildings were torn down per above, unless I'm missing something here.
The old test track can be seen down the center of the photo, and the building on the right is the final assembly location and dyno.

The Google satellite image referenced above doesn't display any rubble [but who knows how recently updated?]

Perhaps the buildings weren't "torn down" so much as gutted? Removing any non-structural interior walls & rewiring the resulting shells for flexible manufacturing needs might be the "price/performance" plan that pegged Piaggio's meter?

Hoping for some good news on Guzzi's future. :)
