Hi,

been running 110/80 - 18 BT 45's by Bridgestone on my '86 Lemans IV. I also ran them on my '98 EV but have experienced bad cupping on both. Switched to Skinko 230's on the EV and couldn't be happier thus far. Was thinking of going the same route on the IV and was wondering how a 100/90-18 would do on the front? What 18" front tires is everyone else running on a Lemans 1000 IV?

Thanks-Brian

Bridgestone recommends the 100/90-18 size for that size rim on the LM. It will make your bike more agile. Also people recommend to run higher pressures (like 37/42psi) with the BT45's since the sidewalls are not all that stiff.
Cupping can be caused by front suspension(damping) as well.
Nothing wrong with the Shinko's by the way, I am using them on my Beemer.

It's been long enough ago that I don't remember specifically what tires I ran on my '89 LeMans V (18" wheels at both ends) and I don't have my records at hand until after I get home at the end of next week. But I seem to recall trying several different front and rear tires/sizes until I found what I liked the most and what worked the best. The Dunlop 401 Touring Elite II comes to mind, and likely with the 100/90-18 front tire, but that might have been for the 850T rather than the LeMans.

I'll look up my records when I get home.

Hi-

Thanks for your reply...my cupping issues with the BT's could have been due to low pressure as I was running the EV as well as the IV Lemans on the lower scale/pressure. At this time I have Skinko 230's on the EV and doing well. I also have a pair of Shinko 009 Raven's to try out this spring on my Breva 1100.

Thanks for the info from Bridgestone recommending 100/90-18 size on the LM as Shinko has the 230's in the same as well.

What model Shinko are you running on you BMW and what pressure?

Thanks-Brian

I have the Shinko 230's. Good grip in the rain, cheap and the rear lasts 11k miles. Running 42psi at the rear on a K1100LT. It's a heavy lump. I got the recommendations from some Beemer website. Front tire pressure 37 or 38psi. I would run a little less pressure on the Le Mans.
