LeMans III -- fork oil capacity?

My Haynes manual specifies 120 ml for the LeMans I fork oil capacity. Does the III take the same amount?

Probably - the exact amount is not really critical as the oil in both types of forks is just there to lubricate the sliding surfaces and has no effect on damping.

Chris is correct, it doesn't matter too much.

60ml of ATF was the original recommendation in the owner's manual but that was later increased to 90ml ATF. It only matters if there is either none or so much it covers the breather hole in the lower fork tube. That will cause hydraulic lock.

35mm standard forks with internal dampers don't need much. If that is what you have then it is standard. Mk I's had thinner fork tube walls but don't ask me for a measurement. They were beefed up for the LM II and III. Maybe LM I's didn't have dampers or Haynes is mistaken.

Rod with 2 x LM III's, one purchased new at the factory in 83.

Thanks gents,

I put in 120ml ATF on Sunday night. Not sure if that covers the breather hole or not. I'm 99% sure it doesn't... gaaaahh... but should I err on the side of caution and drain what I put in, and go with 90ml ??!?

Lemon 1s had cartridge type dampers - now mostly replaced by much superior FACs or Bitubos. The originals looked pretty much like screen door closers and sucked.

If there is too much oil in there it will hydraulically lock or spritz out the breather holes as Morizzi says. It is pretty much self-correcting! One thing to beware of is the crappy plastic air balance fitting used on the leman 3 - it is very easy to strip so be careful! I made an aluminum one for my buddy as they are pretty much unobtainium!

I have installed new FAC dampers (the ones MG Cycle sells), and Wirth springs. No more air balance tube. I don't imagine the oil capacity changes when using aftermarket dampers.
