Hello, I have a LM III that I thought was leaking oil from the base or head gasket or possibly from the O rings but I think I found the problem today. The leak seems to be coming from the distributor. There is a small hole in the body of the distributor at the base of the bell part, [maybe a breather hole?] and I am getting a steady drip coming out of this hole. Is there a gasket or O-ring that could allow this leak or would it be due to excess crankcase preasure? I wasn't able to get to far into it tonight but I thought I might get a headstart if I ask here for some ideas. Like an idiot I only checked the usual culprits like the oil line, valve cover gasket ect.. before tearing it down and replacing the gaskets and O rings. Oh well, good to freshen those up to. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The distributor shaft runs in 2RS bearings and the shaft is sealed by o-rings. You'll need to remove it and take it to bits and replace the o-rings. Since the bearings cost nothing I'd replace them at the same time.

Thanks for the quick response Pete. Always nice to get advice from someone such as yourself. Most of the time I don't have to go this far, the answer is in the archives of one of the Guzzi boards. I'll source those parts tonight.

You need to grind off the end of the rivet the factory puts into the drive gear to get the main shaft out so you'll need a roll pin of that diameter too for when it goes back together. While roll pins shouldn't come out I always think its a good idea to install it and then run a bit of solder into it when its going back together but I'm probably just a bit paranoid!
