I have purchased a lower priced exhaust balance box as mine had a broken flange where it joins the down pipe.
On receiving I found that it had the catalyst loose inside and can be heard by shacking. Rather than sending back to the person I bought it from I'm considering fixing it as it cost only £40. They probably new at that price. I should send back out of principle but these boxes are hard to find, plus I enjoy the challenge.
Has anyone had this problem before that can give some advice on how they fixed it? At the moment I am going to cut open a square panel from the bottom to gain access to the internals. I can make a sealing plate from my old box with enough distance around the outside to seal (something compressible and heat resistant) and fix with self taping screws. I'm thinking that a few long screws will anchor the catalyst but not sure til I see it.
