While stopped for break this weekend I saw that the plug on the right side of the gear box was missing. What would cause the plug to be ejected? It was a very tame ride.

Also since it was gone, I noticed several chipped teeth on the visible gear. Should I be concerned about it?

hi Alxpwl if there is a lot of oil coming out of the plug hole you need to order another oil level /filler plug.
gearbox damage can cost a lot of bickies.
I suspect however it is the rubber plug in the Bell housing .
the clutch & fly wheel are housed in there, the chipped teeth are probably from the starter motor not meshing with the ring gear
properly also look for damage on the starter gear.

Many reasons, either improper re-installation, or just age (you didn't mention the year of your Stelvio). Nothing alarming, just get another from M.I. Pretty cheap. Chipped ring gear teeth are an odd one, but nothing to stress over, assuming it starts properly now(?). It will get replaced if/when you do a clutch down the road. Starter motor activation while the motor is spinning will do this. Most of the newer bikes have a timed start sequence, but the newer Stelvio's moved away from this.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to stop by M.I. asap. There was no oil, on my leg that is. I am hoping it was just a fluke, and it's not like I over-pressured the system. I just wanted confirmation of what I was hoping. Thanks.

That is just an inspection hole. I'd say it is a carry over from when timing marks were on the flywheel. Just get another plug.

Wonder why they stopped the timing marks? A TDC mark was very handy for valve adjustments.
