low fuel sensor for 1999 V11 Bassa

Has anyone attempted to repair or troubleshoot these sensors. My light is always on. If sensor is disconnected light goes off.
Took a resistance reading of sensor disconnected. One side (black) appears to be ground. If I measure between that and the tank, it is 0 ohms. Resistance reading across sensor is about 1.2k ohm on a full tank.
 
A good sensor will measure about 1.2K at room temperature, so you have a good sensor.

The sensor should NOT be touching the tank ground anywhere.

I'll bet, the fitting in you tank is angled a bit, and the housing on the sensor is touching the inside wall of the tank.

I would try gripping the sensor with some big pliers, and flexing it a little to see if the light goes out. If it does, I'm not sure what a good fix is. You may be able to actually bend the fitting a little, but those fittings are known to develop leaks, so be careful.

If it is simply touching ground, another thing is to pull the pins out of the connector and reverse them. One side of the cable is ground anyway.
