MGTC ... How do I change the setting?

I've been trying out all the different settings on the V7III Racer. I've pretty much got everything nailed now and understand how it works and how to set it except for the traction control system. There are supposedly three settings ... 0 (off), 1, and 2, where 2 is a bit more aggressive than 1. Well, I've been able to turn it off and on again, but I can't seem to get the bike to select 1. Whenever I switch the display to the MGTC mode, it shows mode 2.

What's the procedure to change the mode between 1 and 2?

Ahh the great mystery. I hope this gets solved. I've read and reread the manual and can't seem to figure it out myself.

I just read the owners manual again, looking again for a clue. It bugs me when I don't understand how to do a simple thing like this... :)

It seems that the way to switch it ought to be just a quick press of the starter button with the engine running and the TC enabled (that is, not flashing before you are moving); a long press brings up the option to turn it off or on. I thought it was a long press then a short press to switch it. I'll have to try it tomorrow... don't have time to try again tonight.

Select it on the screen, using the MODE switch, and then change it by pressing the STARTER button. The engine has to be already running. Both seem to respond to a longer press, but I found myself bouncing between 0 & 2 if the press was too long.

The ABS is not adjustable or able to be turned off. Or, at least I haven't found it.

Yes, I struggled with the MGCT, it really is sensitive to how long you press the button down. I could only get 0 and 2, but kept at it and finally got all 3 modes to appear, now I run it at 1.

Thanks! I'll work at it today. I'm glad that others have discovered the 'secret' ...

I was going nuts the other night trying to set the instrument brightness too, I knew I'd seen it before. Looked it up again and found that it's only available as a setting while the instrument cluster is on boot up when you first power the bike on. Doh! =8^/

Funny stuff!

Got it! It’s a “medium long” press ... just a tiny hair longer and it does the off/on thing. A little tweaks but I practiced switching back and forth a few times, my thumb knows the timing now. :)

I’ll leave it on the 1 setting too; 2 seemed a little more aggressive than needed for dry roads.

So you got it to kick in on dry roads?

Yes: There's an expansion grate across the foot of a train overpass down the street from me. On setting 2, just crossing the bridge causes the rear tire to slip a tiny bit which kicks in the TC system as you go over that grate. On setting 1, no such problem. I ride over that overpass almost all the time so it's a bit annoying to have the TC complain about it.

Took me a while to figure out too (change mode for MGCT), mostly because the manual says "press briefly" while should say "press and hold for a second". Saw other people struggling to recalibrate too, here my too cents (engine on):

- Press and hold the starter button for a second to change between 1 (dry) and 2 (wet) MGCT setting.
- Press and hold the starter button for two seconds to switch between ON (1 or 2) and OFF (0).
- Press the clutch and press and hold the starter button for five seconds to recalibrate. Drive at 30kph (not 30mph) in 2nd gear for 8 seconds. Switch the engine off for 1 minute. Enjoy.
