Hello, I have a new 2017 California Touring with Mistral Carbon Fiber mufflers installed by the dealer...only 500 miles on the bike thus far. Noticing that there is a significant amount of 'backfire popping" happening and wondering why. I'm new to Guzzi brand after 25 years with HD. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Bike runs lean to start with (Euro 4 emissions are the reason). Those mufflers just make it worse, so it's to be expected (mine popped with standard mufflers). Todd who runs the site has a fuelling fix based on PC-V/AT300 that will make it run so much better - check out the store on the tab above.

Gonna go out on a limb here (real, real short limb) and suggest you need to have the fuel map done by Todd. Do some research on this site, lots of good information.

Sweet looking bike.

Thanks, wow, guess I would have expected the dealer I bought it from...the same guys who added the Mistrals to let me know about this fact. Appreciate your support!!

Don't get too upset with the dealers, they do what they can. Also you may have missed this little bit: *FOR NON-PUBLIC HIGHWAY USE ONLY*

So, the dealer is not going to want to tell you that this is what is needed for the best running experience, because of course none of us here would ever do such a thing as using this on the street. ;)

But seriously, it will make the new bike you love right now, a bike you will never want part with.

I get it :) So basically you are saying I gotta spend another $1,000 to get this thing to stop popping? I had a 2012 Street Glide with a Power Commander that was Dyno Tuned and it did make the bike run better, but it still popped with V&H Pipes and LA Chopper slip-ons.

Dave, congrats and welcome on the site. Hope you'll add your info to the Registry; https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/cal1400-registry-pics-thread-add-your-bike.11538/
Was your dealer Hamlin Cycles by chance? Guessing no.
Guzzi isn't Harley for businesses to amortize costs out to make them affordable, so you have to invest if you like the bike enough. Most here do. There are several threads in this section on the work I do, including dyno results. If you add my kit, not only will you get the popping to go away, but you'll be rewarded by cooler running and a huge power gain as a side benefit.
This is the kit you need for your 1400; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/product/gt-rx-pc-v-at300-ecu-flash-tool/ -- you do not need the dyno tuning with this kit, it's auto tune.

Thanks Todd! Yep, totally get the difference and thats' why I'm here and not with HD anymore :) No, I choked on buying from Jim Hamlyn, had visited him about a year ago then forgot about him (DOH!) Ended up buying from Seacoast in New Hampshire and they were GREAT to deal with. Given they are 2.5 hours away, I plan on going to Hamlyn for service work, Jim seems like a great guy. Regarding your kit, how difficult is the install? Am I better off having Jim do the work or is it pretty simple. Thanks again Todd, will definitely add to the Registry!

Job is not too difficult to do, if you are handy with a wrench and don't mind taking minor bits of your bike off to get access. Working slowly and methodically it took me about 8'ish hours including the programming of the ECU and putting it all back together.

I would imagine that as the Mistrals were installed by the dealer they have no issues regarding warranty but would certainly check prior to installing Todd's fuelling kit. I have a great relationship with my dealer and they were fully aware of my mods while the bike was under warranty. As others have stated the fuelling kit (and air box/filter mod) is probably the best investment you will make on the bike followed by upgrading the suspension.
The GT-Rx store has all you would want to improve the bike and Todd along with other forum members are always on hand to provide advice and support.
