Can anyone identify this muffler? It has no numbers or words of any kind on it, and I wondered who manufactured it, etc. Also, it has a bracket on the side that is apparently attached to the bike with a bolt and washer that can slide fore and aft for proper adjustment. Is there a special piece of hardware designed for mounting this part ?

Thats an Emgo (or similar) copy of a Dunstall muffler. They usually mount with a "universal bracket", i.e. a piece of chromed flat stock with holes for the bolts. You are correct about a bolt used in the slot for fore and aft adjustment. I have a pair of these on my Norton and have seen them used on Guzzi's.

ditto, dunstall "replicas". JC Whitney has them for about $110 a pair. Some fools sell them on ebay for more than that (I guess I should say, some fools buy them off ebay for more than that).

Thanks David, and Mike, for the id. Both of my mufflers were rattling internally, especially the left. At idle, the racket was annoying to say the least. So I dug around and found the ones pictured above. However, I couldn't really see how to mount them, and they looked a little low at the back, as in dragging through tight turns. Then I remembered I had another set of Guzzi silencers, found them and shook both around with no rattles. They were drilled out by the PO, but they sound pretty good sitting in my driveway.

One of the old ones sounds like a coffee can one fourth filled with nuts and bolts :(

Maybe I can use the extra set by building some type of vehicle attached to them. :)
