Hi to all,

I am new to this forum - very very informative!

Yesterday I put a small deposit on a new Canadian Stelvio 2011. It is white, spoke wheels, small tank (18 liters) ... so you all understand that what we have here in Canada as 2011 are in fact 2010 specifications bikes. According to the serial number on the Stelvio: it is in fact a 2011 unit. The price I got is 11500$ new, no side cases. The engine is a A8 series.

I have the opportunity for a Canadian 2012 NTX (is it a 2011?) with larger gas tank and all the updates ; price is 14400$ with side cases.

QUESTION : should I get the NTX or the cheaper 2011/2010? Are all the updates important enough to get the NTX (assuming I can get by the 18l tank on the 2011-10) ? Will I get a much less interesting / reliable / smooth engine on the 2011/2010 ?

Thank you for your help ; I hope to make a final decision today.

Marc

Is the price for the 2012 new or used? If new, go for it. And does the 2011 have the crash bars, hand guards, etc? Remember, the addons will prolly run you past the price of the NTX.

I personally would go with the NTX as it has the larger tank, bags, crash bars, aux lights, etc. But it all really depends on what you want and your budget.

For the tank along, go for the NTX. All the other additions (guards, ABS, ATC, bags) are a bonus over the tank. 18L runs out pretty fast on a trip. Also, need to make sure that all the recalls have been done on the 2011. Not sure if the cam problems stopped in 2011. So far, no real issues (other than the aux lights) on the 2012 NTX.

No brainer, get the large tank '12. Further refined, and dual 02-sensors (that easily allow for the AutoTune 300!). Both should have ABS if that is important to you. The '10 motor is pretty soft in the mid, while the newest version has a better power spread.

Thank you to all for your very informative comments. I went ahead... and the winner is ....
 a brand new Stelvio 2013 ! At the end I decided to put a little more and I got a 2013.

Wow. What a bike!

I had before many adventure bikes (gs650, 690, 990 adventure, gs1100, gs1200, multistrada 1200) and this is my preferred one. Maybe it is because of novelty... but I do not think so. As always, it is a compromise (trail, road, sport) but I perceive I will be happier 90% of the time with this Guzzi.

Thank you again, you were helpful and important in the final decision.

Good wind.

Marc
