This pictorial story is about how four motorcycle friends and I rode from Atlanta to Whitesville, Kentucky, and back last week.

We rode for fun, bourbon, beer, friends, my Kentucky kin, and, as noted, mutton.

That last may be an acquired taste, but you will have simply not lived a complete life if you have not tasted mutton slow-cooked over low hickory coals as done (and only done) by my gene-pool parishioners at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Daviess County, Kentucky, at the semiannual church picnic.

Besides self, the riding cast consisted of Atlanta friends George, Dennis, Joe, and Kevin. George had been to St. Mary’s before, and his and my own tales sold the other three on the trip.

Our only “rules” were (1) to stay off the four lanes except to escape Atlanta and to avoid other large cities; (2) have a good time without getting measured for an orange suit; (3) have a sip or two of Kentucky’s liquid corn; (4) eat more mutton than we will the rest of the year; and (5) return home with ourselves and machines pretty much the same as we left.

We succeeded in all but the last, as the calories we consumed made us bigger, but not necessarily better, men than when we left!

I trailered my Griso to Atlanta. We Guzzisti often mock Harley riders for their trailer miles. But, it was the only way to make all the moving parts of our complex calendars work, so that’s what happened.

After getting to Atlanta, and after the monsoon days ended but before the trip to Kentucky, I managed to get in a “refresher ride" with brother Michael. Around Christmas 2015, the “dreaded woman in the minivan” ran a stop sign and totaled his (beautiful) Moto Guzzi Norge sport-tourer … and nearly totaled Michael. He’s lucky to be alive, and has had a long and difficult recovery. But, he was eager to ride his new Norge, and I was happy to accompany him. He did well, and has been back on “without an escort” a few times since.

Enough background. The pix tell the rest. So, if still reading and interested, go here:

Oh .. if you simply must have more, watch this YouTube vid that George put together:

I am talking to my lawyer now about suing George. ;)

Great slide show. Thanks. I too am a lamb addict. I live in the middle east where they do it best. Young goat rocks too.
