My name is Jim Weed I've been replying to older posts for a couple of weeks and now just saw the part about requiring one post in the Introduction to new members of the Forum. Better late then never. I've ridden a variety of motorcycles from the late 1970s until now. My first motorcycle was a Hoda Trail 90 that I put in a 110 kit that was intended for their three wheelers at the time. I rode a variety of Yamaha thumpers for awhile until a friend of mine said that a real "man" rode a Harley. I purchased a 1981 Sportster. When my grandmother died, I went out and bought a brand new 1985 Softail with part of my inheritance. For those who are not familar with that year, the engine was sold mounted with a 4 speed transmission and chain drive. To say that the bike vibrated some would be an understatment. I became very good with roadside repairs as things loosened up on long rides. I was on the third speedometer that had vibrated apart when I finally sold it a few years ago. I stopped riding for a brief time to address some nagging health issues. To celebrate my recovery from my first knee replacemet 2 years ago. I bought a used 2016 V7 II Stone. The allure of Harleys had worn out by then.

I have enjoyed the Stone a lot. It definately is a conversation starter when I pull in somewhere with other motorcyclists. The one thing that I am getting used to is fuel injection vs. carburation with the bike. This is the first motorcycle with fuel injection that I've owned and it is strange not having the option of tuning with jets. I had my second knee replaced earlier this month and am using this time to look through the forum to get a better understanding how tuning a fuel injected motorcycle works as I heal. I have found there is a lot of good information here.

The other part of my learning curve is ordering parts from Italy, especially as the pandamic was ending and August was approaching in Italy. I purchased a fork kit through GT Motorcycles. I probably pestered people more than I should have about where the kit was, but this was a new experience for me, so sorry about that and thanks for your patience. l love the kit and it's made a huge improvement on the handling. I'll be ordering a few more things once I'm healed and back working. Keep up the good work.

Hey, better late then never. I was looking at a HD in 84, when I couldn't test ride it I went & bought my 84LM3. The model was an XR1000. Didn't have to test ride my LM, I had an 850T & 80 SP1000 back at the farm.
Just wanted a Hot Rod. Good Luck w/knee's, not there yet for me. Ride Safe

Thanks for the fun intro James. Yes, the supply chain is still quite bad around the globe.
Hope you'll add your info to our Registry linked below for your V7, and hope to see you here often!

I'll add my bike to the registry once my knee has healed a bit more and I can roll the bike out of the garage to take a good picture of it. I bought this one at two months after my first knee replacement to "treat" myself. The current recovery is going a lot better so I hope it won't be much longer. Getting myself to a place where I can ride again is one of the goals I have in my recovery.

The irony is that Harley couldn't get anyone to buy the XR1000 at the time. It didn't look enough like a typical Harley for your typical rider. Yet the performance for a Sportster when it came out was really good. Now the bike is becomng collectable. It's less then two months since the knee surgery and I've already gone on a couple of short rides with no issues and more importantly, no knee pain. I still have to watch that I don't push things, but I'm very happy with how this is turning out. Thanks for the comment.
