and, I have some questions. When doing a maintenance service, where is a good source for consumable parts like crush washers, oil filter, etc? Additionally, the previous owner had used and recommended Mobil 1, 0W40 motor oil. Is that an acceptable oil?

Hello! Welcome.

Good choice!

Here in this section of the country, MG Cycle is one of the best sources for those consumable items. They have an extensive online selection.

If you find that you are wanting smoother throttle performance and running characteristics, then take a look in the STORE above, as Todd (GTM) offers many things for our motorcycles, including fueling options (I have it on my 2012 Stelvio) and everything he makes is first quality.

Another good supplier is Curtis Harper, at Harper's Moto Guzzi. He's been around for a very long time.

I recommend you become a Contributing Member here by using the DONATE option at the top of the page. You can donate whatever you feel the site is worth to you, as everything helps to keeo it online and 100% advertising free. When you become a Contributing Member, then you get access to the DOWNLOADS section, where the Owners Manuals and Service Manuals for our motorcycles are offered for free download. Those reference materials are your best source of technical information regarding oils, etc.

You will find that everybody has an opinion on oil. It's one of the great points of contention in the motorcycle world. However, your motorcycle is quite happy on a diet of good, clean, fresh, oil from a myriad of suppliers and manufacturers. It really depends upon you and your personal taste. That being said, this is the page regarding oil on your bike and it calls for 5W40 4 stroke oil.

In truth, you could do just perfectly fine with SuperTech Full Synthetic 10W40 Motorcycle oil from Walmart. It's very good quality oil, and will do the job just fine without bleeding your wallet to death.

The most imprtant part about oil is that is has a finite carrying capacity for contaminants. Clean oil is always better oil. 5w40 vs 10W40 isn't that critical unless you are driving in freezing snow. Clean oil, is.

Again, welcome and enjoy!

I had a 2003 hydro. I didn't use the recommended 5W40 but used Mobil 1 15W50. The bike never had the recall done until after I sold the bike with about 40K miles on it. Shelby Kennard did the recall at Union Cycle. No problems were found with the factory setup. He attributed the no problems to running the heavier oil.

Thanks for the input. I know that oil threads can be controversial and I was reluctant to bring up the topic, but I was suspect on the 0w40 recommendation.
