So I feel a little dragging and smell some burning. The line of traffic I was in was just getting started from being at a traffic light so I'm only going about 20mph. My first thought was my rear caliper is locking up. After about 30 feet I'm safely pulled over to the side of the road. I smell the burning of rubber and fiberglass. I just knew what had happened. I dismount and see what I thought I'd see. The rear hugger is rotated a foot past the swingarm and it's at an odd angle across the rear tire. It was plain to see what happened. The front bolt went missing and the hugger was grabbed by the tire.

I take off the seat and check out the G12's tool kit for the first time ever. It has a 4mm allen wrench which is what I need to remove the two hugger side screws. It also has a 13mm wrench which is what I need to remove the hugger side bracket. Ten minutes later and the hugger is off, on the ground and I'm putting things away. Thankfully I have the Guzzi rear rack, their tail bag and I put a bungee net in the bag a few days ago. The hugger is trashed beyond ever being used for anything but use the bungee net and attach it to the bike anyway.

Several things were immediately apparent:
I knew better and should have used a separate nut to keep the front mounting screw from working its way out. Blue Locktite wasn't enough!
I just trashed a perfectly good $165 rear hugger.
My rear tire is scratched up and no longer has any mold release or chicken strips on it.
There is a very light rub on part of the rim edge on the right side of the rear wheel.
Five minutes and a $0.05 M4 nut (which I knew I should have used) would have prevented this whole thing.

Well, the Griso ran perfectly once I removed the external braking device. What a nitwit thing to have happen.

Please, learn from my mistake if you get a Skidmarx rear hugger.

Now thats particularly good timing. I've just fitted mine earlier this evening and wondered about the clearance after I wondered about the tightness of the nuts all round.
Might just be taking it apart and applying Loctite. If Blues no good what type is 'locked' :?:

:D I decided to dispense with a hugger altogether. I fitted a "Shocksock" to my rear shock absorber. Works a treat, and also is very cheap! Huggers on Griso's look crap,IMHO.

If I put another Skidmarx hugger on, I'll use safety wire on all the mounting bolts. I do like how it looked as well.

My replacement hugger came in today just as I was dropping the big G off for it's inital service. When I get the bike back, I'll be using red lock tight as well as safety wire on all 3 mounting screws.
