Hello folks, I'm new here. I searched similar threads but I couldn't find what I am looking for.

I need to register a 2009 MG Norge in Florida, where a VIN visual inspection is required by a police officer. When the officer showed up to my house we searched everywhere but could not find where the VIN number is located. Can you help? A picture would be fine as well. Thanks so much in advance for the help!

Look on the right side of the steering head.
That's what the manual says. But I looked everywhere on the steering head and could not find it. I know the bike has a good title (meaning not rebuilt or salvaged, etc.) it's been registered in NY for 5 years no problems. I'm baffled...if I can't find the VIN on this bike I won't be able to register it in FL...ugh...

Hi Luca,

On a 2014 Norge, the serial number (VIN) is located on the top of the steering head just UNDER the front of the gas tank. You have to move the fuel tank back a couple of inches to then read the etched VIN number. Crazy, I know. The VIN is not clearly visable when looking down on the triple clamp. Note that VIN is etched to a rectangular plate which in turn riveted to the top of the frame in the front. It is not on the side of the frame, it is on the top (at least on a 2014 - see photo). Good luck.

Thanks Dale! I have a 2009 Norge I wonder if the location is the same. Out of curiosity...how do you move the fuel tank back? I hope you didn't mean I have to take the fuel tank apart?

No, just remove the seat, then (I think this is right as I am not near the bike right now - ) unbolt the rear of the tank an slide it maybe back, or up and back?

When you look down on the top of your tank - straight down when you are sitting on your bike - do you see the top part of the VIN plate with the rivets? Front top of the gas tank.

Yes I do see that. I just assumed the VIN wasn't there because quite frankly that is an absurd location to put it....I read your other post about moving the tank back. I'll try and see what happens. Unbelievable though...LOL
Thanks for the help Dale! I'll post back with an update! ;)

Home from work and just pulled the cover off my bike. Now I remember why I took a photo of VIN plate... not something you want to do on a regular basis. Tank has to slide back, but before it does, you have to remove lower fairing screws and cover panel screws. A lot of work just to get a glimpse of the entire plate with the VIN at the bottom. I also remember why I had to go through all of this - the state of Georgia did not recognize my VIN after I bought the bike new from my dealer, plus when I went to insure it at Allstate, nothing matched up again. Now all straight, but a paperwork mess at the time - both with the state and the insurance. Now really good luck. Happy wrenching. Nothing is ever easy, is it?

Dale thank you so much! I followed your instructions and I was able to pull the tank back to expose the VIN plate. What a joke...I
I'll take a pic and leave it like that for the officer to inspect. Thanks again!

Luca,

I have a 2014 Norge in Florida and I am pretty certain the DMV will want to see the VIN.

It is very easy to find. Put it on the sidestand and turn the handlebars to the left. There it is. 20170918 214018

LOL! OMG seriously? I tried and sure enough it is there! Although on my bike the whole VIN is not visible because it's covered by wires that seem pretty hard to move out of the way. But hey let that be documented on the thread. Thank you!
