Hi folks, New to Guzzi, bought an 07 Silver norge with 6k miles on it.
I do all my own work so looks like I will be a regular poster here. I was looking at the throttle body balancing procedure, looks like I need to get a Reader/Adapter with wiring for my laptop to balance the throttle bodies?
Any one here uses Amsoil stuff for gear box? Shaft drive? I am used to chain drives and water cooled bikes.
Thanks!

Welcome Petrov,

While you don't need anything special for the actual balancing of the throttle bodies you most likely will need to reset the throttle position sensor afterward which will require something most likely not found in your toolbox.

I elected to purchase the VDSTS from this site in order to be able to take care of that myself and it works well.

Upon balancing the throttle bodies the bike ran somewhat sluggish, I hooked up to the laptop and found that the TPS value was well outside of spec, a simple procedure on the laptop to reset it and everything is fine. If you do all your own work it will pay for itself.

No help on the Amsoil I'm afraid.

Welcome Petrov, and congrats on the Norge(!). Be sure to add it to the Registry (tab at the top of this page if you can, contact me direct with any problems).

Yes, the VDST (or dealer) is needed for the TPS reset. Happy to get you the VDST as shown here; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/TR-VDSTS.html

As for Amsoil, I used their products exclusively until they didn't offer a 10w-60 for the new bikes, so I've now switched to Redline Oils, based here in California.

Thanks will be ordering that next week. Right now I am shopping for all the fluids.
Does the shaft drive drain and fill bolts have crush washers? Are they Reusable? Tranny Bolts? Oil Drain plug?

Thanks in advance on the VDST, and all of the drain plug crush washers are re-usable, they have a rubber sealing ring around the inner perimeter.

Well so much for checking the oil, cant get to the stupid dip stick without taking off half the bloody fairings.
Could not take off the fairings, kinda hard to get to some of the parts holding them.
I have to check the fluid levels when the bike is upright? So do I need some one holding it upright?

It is a Norge, put it on the center stand. If it was removed, get it and trim the rubber stop down so you don't drag it.

Its on there, for the life of me I can not get up on the center stand. Any tips suggestions? I read the manual and followed those directions and still cant get it on the center stand.

Do some weight training? Seriously it is more a matter of technique, than strength. Do you have a friend nearby that can demonstrate the technique?

I face the bike, left hand on the handlebar, right foot on the center stand lever, left foot about 2 feet to the left and parallel to the right foot. Right hand on the grab rail. Put nearly all (to all if necessary) of your weight on the center stand lever and pull up with your right hand. Try it without the bags on as it may be easier.

Thanks for the advice, I tried it out and it worked when I did it your way.
And yes I lift weights for recreation.
Almost crashed the Norge yesterday.
My first dry clutch bike, Im used to wet clutch, drop the clutch while giving it a bit of gas.
I did that on Norge while barley giving it any gas and it stalled on me. It likes to be revved before dropping the clutch.

Not all center stands are made equal in design and execution, Case in point my lightest Guzzi a V7 Classic is by far the most difficult one I have ever encountered damn near impossible without help, My Norge is also a very hard one to operate and the easiest is probably the heaviest Guzzi a California Vintage when I say easy that is what I mean almost like deploying the side stand. Go Figure

It is a dry clutch, don't drop it. The smoother you are with the throttle, shifting, clutch, and braking, the faster it will go.

I thought with a hydraulic clutch it didnt make a difference?
So slowly let the clutch out while giving it gas?

Almost forgot to add, owners manual says both wheels must be on the ground to check the oil level? Does it really throw off the level that much when it is on a center stand?

In regards to AMSOIL I use their severe gear 75W90 in the transmission and CARC. Shifting is butter smooth.

I use their motorcycle specific 60 weight engine oil. The product code is AHR.

No it doesn't. Oil level is like hand grenades, close is good enough. Just make sure you don't get an overfill condition.

for checking oil I took a long piece of pvc pipe, cut a notch in one end to fit over the dipstick to unscrew it. once it is out drill a small hole thru the flat part of the stick, then take a piece of wire with a 90 bend in one end, run it thru the pvc to hook into the hole drilled. now you can snake the stick out for checking which should not be often. I just finished a 7500 mile trip and my Norge used no oil at all.

I just put in an order for the diagnostic tool. From what I read it will allow me to trim the idle fuel mixture?
I know that it is very very lean due to EPA regs which is bad for oil and engine? I can make it run a bit richer then?
