Hi Guys,

After filling up my 8v today , I turned it over and started hearing a harmonic sound different to the rattle of the valves and the gear box. It is a low tone, and increases in oscillations with rpm, it seems to be somewhere around the left coil ie away from the rocker cover and gearbox. I don't know if there is a butterfly valve that is flapping about, but the sound is too regular to be the random noise on an uncontrolled whatever.... any ideas from the brains here :)

No idea, but can you hear it while riding, with your helmet on? If so, you could check if it's there and behaves the same way when you shut the throttle and let out the clutch gradually (in 5th or 6th, at speed).

Wonder if it could be the fuel pump.

How old ru ,i used to do that on my BSABrian UK wrote:
Try using a Guzzi stethoscope - long screwdriver with handle against ear, other end on parts of bike, until you find where it comes from.

Just make sure you get the ends right! A screwdriver point into the ear hurts....

Doc,

Interesting...Mine is back in the shop having something very similar investigated.

Cheers,

Steve

Loftyjohn

Ooops nearly forgot, I had a screw driver just like Brian's:) Also had a BSA Rocket Gold Star:)

Yeah I know, I thought that also. The store has had it whilst I've been off on my hols. I spoke to them yesterday, don't know the ins and outs of the problem as yet. All I can say at the moment is things are in progress, or not, as the case may be...Sorry if that sounds a bit cryptic, but sufficed to say I won't have the Guzzi much longer.

The letter I wrote plus the article I wrote about the speedo sensor has been passed to head office apparently, whether anything comes of that I'll have to find out at a later date.

I'll let y'all know what happens ;)

I had some problems with the wellnut that secures the front pod bolt to the frame. That's in the area you described. The rubber flange is a bit small and it might have gotten pushed inside the frame causing the pod to rattle. Maybe worth a look.....
