New Norge windshield

Putting together a full review of this one, Skidmarx & stock. Soon. Here.

I like their method for choosing the correct heigth screen... As soon as I get the Norge back I'll do that.

Hopefully Todd will have a report on them by then.

Pssst, Todd..... I think, by the accompanyaning chart that I need a Medium...;) But I will know better after the yard stick test.

Thanks kwn306...

Best,
Rob

it'd be neat to see the shields on top of each other.
Rad... didn't you have a bigger shield?

I did however, the dark tint had be craning my neck to see over the darn thing, you never know how much you look through the screen at say, in town riding and in the rain, ducking doen to get out of teh wet an dlooking through it... At night the dark tint was a real hassle. But it looked cool... B) The other thing was the height, it was a tad tall for me.

This one has all the right elements to be a good screen, wider, not as tall (many options there) and I will buy the clear, no more dark tint...

I do like also that the CalSci site talks to helping keep the blast off the shoulders, that is exactly the area that I want to target... plus the staement that there is no back pressure.

I'll try one...

If you look at this front shot of a Norge and at the CalSci front shot you can get an idea of the difference...

That wider area at the top of the CalSci screen is going to be what makes a huge difference... I hope.

I talked to Mark at CalSci regard to the size of the screen that would suit me asking whether he was comfortable to supply me with a screen according to the sizing chart verses using the Yardstick method....
My Norge is not yet back from Heli-Bars so I cannot do the Yardstick method measurement right now. He said that he was not ready to commit to a size recommendation using just that chart until he is able to develop a more complete cross section of sizes from customers.... so it will be a little bit before I am able to order a screen... I am willing to bet that the + 2.5" taller Medium will work for me however, I too need that second test prior to ordering the screen.

More later,
rd

I had the Skimarx screen on the bike for awhile but after a 2,000 mile ride last fall it was removed because the front end was vibrating above 75 miles an hour. I thought it was the suspension, tires and finally removed the screen. Problem solved.

Todd,
Is this the same screen you were showing guzzi bob dickman to try on his norge? Looked like good quality, and wider than the stocker

Same here...

I experienced, what I thought was, severe buffeting and being kicked around when at higher speeds... NOT where you want that kind of crap...! And while following and overtaking large trucks... Not good.

I hope this one is better... I will say that I think CalSci is on the right track incorporating a vent in the screen, similar to the old (Now Harper's) Swannee Aerofoil...
I still have one of those, course it's on the Hack and that doesn't go real fast but I enjoy the protection.

I did have that problem with the skidmarx screen, but it is now better.
If you look down at the screen from above, you will see that the outer edges are curled forwards a little. This actually gives to flat a profile to the screen and allows turbulence from trucks to affect it.
I heated up the top corners of the screen and bent them backwards so the curve is all the same way now looking from above. Much better.
I must say that the skidmarx screen was very badly finished, and the moulding is also poor, as it fits skew on the bike due to this. Again, I put the screen on a flat surface, and only 3 corners touched down. Bent screen so that all 4 corners touch, and it fits better.
The edges were also cut and finished very crudely I thought.

Sounds like an easy and clever fix ... but could you post some pics? I don't really see how you changed the curve. In fact, looking at the new shield, I was surprised to see it doesn't have the sort of curving lip one sees on most screens, that deflects the air stream upwards (supposedly?). Is that what you removed from the Skidmarx?

No, not the lip as seen looking from the side of the screen, but if you look at the sides of the screen towards the top, they bend forwards slightly, giving the whole screen a flatter profile.
I heated the screen up with a hot air gun, carefully to make sure I didn't just get one small part hot, and so as not to mark it.
When hot, it bends easily.
