Hi. I'm an experienced MC rider of 40 years, but have never ventured into the Moto Guzzi world. I have an opportunity to buy a 1997 California anniversary model (number 719 of 750). This bike has set for 10 years since last licensed for the road. Side covers are missing, turn signal stalks are broken, headlight is missing and there are no side cases. it does not start/run as it has set so long, but has low mileage and no signs of any mechanical problems such as oil leaks. The tank is rusted on the inside.

I'm skilled enough to bring back basic systems like clutches, brakes, (both master cylinders and calipers), etc. I'm not experienced with fuel injection, which this bike apparently has. I'm also wondering if there are other areas of this particular bike which I should be concerned with.

I'm a shade-tree mechanic wrenching on mostly Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki bikes of various models. I'm currently working on resurrecting a 1997 Suzuki 1400 Intruder. it was of similar condition to the California model. Sat for a long time, rust in tank, carb rebuild, master and caliper systems rebuilt.

Oh...the MG California is cosmetically in very good condition. it came out of a storage facility. it's completely covered in dust, but very very little rust on the exterior.

thanks for any insights!

If it's not a rust bucket, it's doable. But, it makes little sense, even if it was free.
Decent condition and running, the value is about $2,000.
I'd sell you my clean great running 2001 EV with 2 HB bags for $2,000. It's getting to be too much for my 75 hard years. Located in Az BTW.

understand. partly it's because it's a hobby and I like tinkering on bikes. I'd be looking to flip it eventually, but depending on the bike and personality of it, I may keep it and enjoy for a while.

Hi Dave, welcome to the GT Forum. As Vagrant mentioned above, it may not be worth the time and $ if you want to flip it. If you want to invest your time and money for you to enjoy, you can. Every part of that fuel injection system (pump, hoses, etc) needs to be replaced, and the injectors removed and professionally cleaned. Don't fool, think or try otherwise.
You'll find tons of solid info on this using a search, per the paragraphs at the top of every page. This section is just to introduce yourself to the group. Please don't use it for Tech info. See you in the Loop & Tonti section.

Thanks Todd. being totally unfamiliar with Moto Guzzi, I wasn't even sure what the Loop & Tonti section was for. :)
