I'm new to Moto Guzzi (been riding a Ninja for a while), and I just bought a 2012 V7r.

I went to pick it up from the dealer, and just as I was about to ride off, a loud scream started coming from the engine.
Apparently there is something wrong with the clutch, so the dealer took it away for fixing (oh so close to riding it, argh). Looks like 2 weeks of waiting for parts to arrive. Damn.

I don't mind working on my own bike, and MG seems ideal for that, but I'm a complete newbie having been riding an appliance for so long. I can change the oil, but that's about it. My plan is to buy a copy of Guzzology, and teach myself how to service and look after my own bike (my new v7r!).

So, assuming the previous owner didn't do anything, or didn't know what they were dong, what should I be checking to start with when I finally get my v7r? T
I gather that the clutch is wrecked because the previous owner didn't leave enough play in the clutch (if my research in this forum is right).

What else should I check/change when I finally get it? It has around 4200km on it (about 2600 miles -I'm in Australia).

I'm a newbie, so sorry if I sound a bit naive, so for example should I change all the fluids?

:)

Hey mate!

Only 4200! Not even broken in yet ;)
Sounds like the clutch might have been the thrust bearing, I had mine fail and it does make a very nasty little scream.

Some things I have done to mine recently have been flashing the ECU through Todd here, awesome little device.

Also I just replaced the Voltage Regulator, being a 2012 it might be within the effected range?
Within 30,000kms I am now on my third battery due to the voltage regulator killing the others. If you find your bike not starting in the morning, this might be the reason, In the end I was leaving my bike on trickle every night!!

Where in Aus are you? Perth myself!

Oh thrust bearing? Ah ha. Good to know, thanks!

I been thinking about getting Todds flashed ECU also. I'll research whether my voltage regulator might need replacing, tyanks for the tip.

I'm in Melbourne. Bloody cold.

Thrust bearing? Do you mean throw out bearing?

Unless there's a language barrier they are two different things.

And was the AU 2012 V7R a 1TB model or was it still the 2TB? I don't think the voltage regulator probably l problem extended to the 2012 models, but maybe that's only in the US where they were still 2TBs

Hmmm, whichever the name. It was the part linked in the photo!

Mine is an Australian delivered 2013 model V7 Special 2TB. Can confirm my Voltage Regulator was cooked but a friends of the same year and model is perfectly fine.

Pretty sure mine is a single throttle body (2012), since it has those newer black head covers (no red spark plugs showing on the top).

Ah, you've got the nomenclature correct, and it's not the throw out bearing, but it's related.

Looks like there is a thrust bearing assembly for the clutch release shaft in the back of the transmission.
