Hi, my name is AL. I was happy to find this message board! I've been riding for the last 30 years, and I guess I've had about 20 bikes. Just had my Lemans CX100 delivered five days ago. Was given to me by the leader of our old motorcycle club The Shrews. It needs a lot of work, but I'm excited about the project. I believe the bike has been sitting for about 20 years. It had a blown final drive from what I understand, and the guy who took the final drive, and was supposed to repair it, ended up losing it. Starting to do my research on what parts may be compatable from other models, so I can first take care of the Final Drive problem. Got three books delivered yesterday which should be helpful in the project, Guzziology, Haynes Manual, & CX100 parts list/diagrams. So far I looking at a 2001 final drive assembly, which I think will fit, but unsure about driveshaft compatability & lenght. But hope I can figure these things out with the books. I will make any final drive questions a separate post in the Tech section, if the books do not answer my questions, and probably will. But since I'm already into my Guzzi story, and if you have any general suggestions, I'd definately like to hear them. I'll be posting some pictures of the bike in my next posting.

Thanks, AL

Hi Al, welcome to the Forum. Glad you found us too. I'm sure you will find that we house some of the best and most knowledgeable Guzzisti anywhere.

Rear drives are highly compatible, and no reason I can think of that a '01 won't work... outside of perhaps the shock mount, and likely internal wheel spacer in the drive. Others that know the older bikes better then I will sound off I'm sure, if not, track down Peter Roper, Fader or Ed on this Forum.

Todd,

You are on the mark. The internal wheel spacer must be changed. I also thing the shock mount as well as the older bikes used the larger diameter mounts. Drive shaft, probably the same as the T, T-3, and G-5, but a part number comparison will tell for sure.

Thank you for the welcome and info. on the final drive. I meant to mention that the 2001 drive I'm looking at is from the California Ev model, if that changes anything. Also didn't mention how I got to ride this bike about 25 years ago! At the time I had only ridden Japanese bikes, and I was just amazed at it's low end power & low revs at speed. I also remember loving the sound of the bike!!! Cheers, AL

Welcome Al, it's good to see a fellow CX owner join. I wish you well with your project and glad you're here. Biff

Al,

Just remembered the gear ratio changed with the advent of the 1100s in 1994 or 1996, not sure of the year. The CX doesn't produce enough torque to use the 8/33 read drive of the newer bikes. The CX uses 7/32 gear set. So you should have a drive from 1972 (yes an eldo drive is the same) to 1993 ish.

The eldo drive may have the same gears, but the drive itself is different and requires a spacer between the swingarm flange and the drive to work on a disc-brake bike. (and it'll look wierd)

Oh yeah, it changes things: the final drive from an '01 Tonti model [like the CA EV] is wildly different from the final drive from one of the '01 Spineys.

Read your Guzziology & you should be fine...

Thanks a lot guys, for more info on final drives. I'll do my homework, and be patient until the right "drive" comes along.
