Newbie Carb Rebuild 96 Cali III

Having never rebuit a carb before in my life,I feel at 50 it is time to pop that cherry. :? My Cali is a 96 Cali III with carbs, I have the rebuid kit of O-rings and gaskets, but are there other parts I should check and replace while in there? Also what book(s) should I get that will show me what/how to do the rebuild and give me setting and what not. I feel the carbs need rebuilt because she sat for 5 years without runing and seems to be running lean. The carbs also are leaking rather profusly from the bowl gasket and some what at the top. I'm gonna try this :eek: and if I fubar it too bad I'll haul it to Ned's an hour away for the rescue. :cry:
