Bobby D called and asked if wanted to go to Angeles Crest...in a car...he recently bought a Mazda Miata MX-5 so I said ok. Now for those that may not know BobbyD aka Safetybob, he doesn't ride other peoples bikes or lend out/trade his bike, so when he hands me the keys and says you're driving I was surprised. not sure if it is a 08 or 09 I don't know anything about the specs or when they changed the body style, but the car has wheel flairs and wider tires and it is RED! The car looks more aggressive, after adjusting the seat and getting a feel for the car we head up to Angeles Crest the car has good power and feels tight in suspension dept. that when Bob states the model he bought has Belstein shocks. I really like the feel/feedback of the car so Bob worries and asked me to take it easy... so we go up moderately up the hill and in a few places I push a little, the car tracks fine and wants to go faster! So I work on Bob to let me push harder but...so now we're eating I tell him the car is kind of like a Guzzi feels better on the gas in the turns...we get ready to head down and hands me keys and kind of lets me push a little harder on downhill, wow the car responded I didn't get carried away we didn't drift or push that hard but got to see the car work. It was very neutral it didn't plow like other vehicles from the orient it felt more like a car from Germany than Japan. it had very good feel and was fun! what a hoot, it truly is a balanced car...performance, handling, appointed well and size. I liked it!!

Brand new left over '07, latest body design/motor started '06, 20-30 more HP with minimal if any weight gain over prior design, bought it 5 months ago. Best part is the giggles per dollar ratio is unbeatable for a 2-seater roadster rag top, IMHO. As far as I can tell, nothing else comes even close in that regard. Sticker $23.3k, got it for $18.5k, didn't even have to haggle. Basically a stock "Touring", not the more expensive Grand Touring trim, only option added is "suspension package," inc. aforementioned Bilstein shocks, "sport tuned suspension," limited slip differential. Suspension is still surprisingly supple, not at all rough on the driver/passenger, even on less than baby smooth pavement. Lovely 6-speed manual tranny is standard. Glad you liked it, Rich, I had a great time & learned a few things too, thank YOU.

As an added bonus, the color is almost a perfect match for my Norge, maybe just a little more "red," slightly less orange than the Norge. (Guzzi content). Didn't choose the color, just happened to be the color of the one car at that price. At that price, I would have taken it in purple with pink polka dots.

The Mazda MX-5 is probably the most kick ass affordable roadster I have ever driven.
Even the first generations were fantastic.
Here are some other things that are fantastic about that car:

Gives good gas millage.
has direct link gear shift straight into the tranny, so no other vehicle feels better in the shift department.
They are dead-nutz reliable
when you get bored with it a little, Jackson, among others make super and turbo charger for them, for not much money, so you can bump up the horses, brakes and suspension at infinitum.
and for a small car, they can still fit a big guy comfortably.

...congratulations Bob, I know you were talking about getting one a while back, I'm glad you pulled the trigger...
and the RED color is a direct reflection of your inner personality :)

enjoy it in good health my friend.
