OK, so the Griso has been in the shop as it just stops charging, they have had it to bits and checked the alternator and all the other connections. Cleaned the battery terminals etc, ran it for a while and it now all charges. Got it back on Friday and went for the first ride today, charged fine fine for 50 miles then just stopped charging again, eventually everything stopped running, but made it home, it finally stopped in the drive with 7.5volts showing.

I am leaning towards the battery, except that when you leave it for a short while it will recover, in this case to 11 volts. I would have expected a duff battery not to recover at all?

Any thoughts?

This is a long shot but worth taking a look at. Do your headlights go out also when it stops charging. Looks like the Griso has the same setup as the Stelvio when it comes to the alternator and headlight relay. The headlight relay triggers the headlights and the exciter circuit on the alternator (at least according to the Griso Wiring diagram). If this is your case, could be the headlight relay is sticking or dropping out. If the relay does not trigger, you will have no headlights (low beam) and no alternator (charging). Here is the tread to the Stelvio issue for reference.

Thats interesting, o be honest i don't know if the lights go out first, as its daylight. I have just put an hours charge in the battery and it starts ok and runs with the headlight on but with no charge, does that mean its not got that problem?

Correct. If you have no charge and headlights, points to something else on the alternator.
