Wanted to start off with a proper hello, but not sure if this is the correct section of the site to do so.
I don't own a Guzzi yet, but got my first awakening when I saw a California Jackal way back, and knew then and there I would own something similar someday. That day is approaching soon, and I've decided when it gets here, the bike will be a California tourer. For now, I'm just doing my homework and studying up on the quirks, bugs, and miscellaneous things I'll need to know to make the right choice.
My current ride is (please don't ban me yet!) an unmolested '79 Yamaha XS650 Special, which I absolutely love to bits....except that I cannot do much more than an hour at a time on it without stopping to snap the back, neck and shoulders back in place. A great around-town bike, but just not made for long hauls. Also I'm just a wee bit too long to fit comfortably on it. So....here I am prepping for the step up. Hopefully next spring or summer it will happen, and I would obviously trust the advice and info from veteran Guzzi pilots above anyone else. Maybe even find the right candidate from a forum member, who knows?
I look forward to the process, and hope you all can put up with an off-kilter sense of humor, though I'll try to keep it safe in case there's any 'probationary period'. :)

Hi Dan, welcome to the Forum and in advance to the Guzzi Famiglia. I still own my original Guzzi (Jackal). I'll never let go of it. Technology has taken big strides in the last 15 years, but the 1100's are still a blast to ride. They are different animals to the new 1400, which is a beast in s good way. If you end up looking at the 1100's, don't purchase one that has been sitting too long (big $ to revive them), and I'd recommend staying away from the late '02-03 Hydraulic lifter motors. It's all covered here.
Look forward to your following posts, and best of luck on the buying adventure. The 1400 Tourer is a fun ride.

Thanks Todd (did I get that right?) I do almost all the work on my bike and cars...and whatever other mechanical monstrosities show up at my doorstep..myself. I'll assume if I find a Guzzi that needs work, it may take a specialists touch. Is that where the expense comes in, or is it the parts themselves that are pricey? Still in the homework stage, but I can't wait to finish the garage and get on an EV or something shortly thereafter.
I'm not afraid to dig into an engine of any sort..cylinder heads are the area that I do my mojo voodoo work, mainly. Not that I would dive in right away, but I'm sure you know how the power addict gene works. Can only keep it at bay for so long, right?
I look forward to learning every bit I can before taking the plunge, and hopefully getting to know some interesting people here.
