I'm hoping that the saying "there's no such thing as a dumb question, only a dumb answer" rings true on this occasion....

I recently did an intermediate engine oil replacement (at 5000km from new) for some piece of mind. Getting the old oil out was easy. Getting the new oil in was a nightmare - pouring about 3 and a half litres of oil through the tiny hole where the dipstick resides took forever.

The OEM workshop manual was of no use, just stating "Pour new engine oil until it goes above the minimum level".

What's the trick to getting the new oil in?

I find letting the new oil sit out in the sun helps it flow better. Warm oil pours quicker in my experience.
Beyond that, a funnel with a hose on it.

If your using 10/60 synthetic it doesn't need changing that often. Cars are running 20,000 miles on the stuff!

Jim, on a new engine, an extra oil change isn't a bad thing. It helps to remove early wear particles. Once broken in, longer change intervals are acceptable. In fact, the recommended change interval is probably too frequent considering the quality of modern oils. Granted an air/oil cooled engine is a bit harder on oil that a water cooled engine, but still the recommended interval is probably too early, but it is safe.

take off the stupid body work and remove the whole plug. then you can use a regular funnel. 10/60 Motul pours in any temp.
Most all motor oils pour at any temp. But a warmer oil is thinner and pours easier than a colder bottle of the same oil.

Had the same issue with my 2014 Norge. If you remove the plug that the dipstick goes into that exposes the "real" fill hole which is much larger. The plug that the dipstick goes into is a black hard plastic part that can be unscrewed.

FYI....I believe that plug the dipstick goes into is a 26mm. You can get a socket on it with a stubby ratchet, extension and a universal joint.

Speaking of dipsticks on the 8V. I have a 2012 Norge and while checking the oil on it is light years better than my 2007 was it is still a pain to add. On the 2007 I installed a Leo Tamer dipstick that was really small diameter tubing but at least I could reach it to pour in the oil. Somebody, MPH I think, had a flex line larger diameter unit that looked better but I have seen nothing similar for the 2012. Anybody else see anything. I have about a dozen funnels, none of which reach in there without a hose. That is a pain in that you have to hold the funnel. I would really like something I could carry on the bike for a trip. So far though I have put 400 miles on this bike with no noticeable oil usage.
