Everytime I ride my Norge in the rain my fuel pump starts to howl pretty loud. The bike runs fine, fuel milage does not change just makes this annoying noise. I have talked to some other Norge owners and some have experienced this also, not necessarily the rain part. Warranty is out in Oct so would like this addressed before it costs me too much money.

Also both my high beam bulbs have burned out. Just wondering if anyone else had a problem with this. At least they are now out at the same time so I only need to remove the dash/gauges once! Bike is an 07 about 16k miles.

Thanks.

No thoughts on the fuel pump noise, but a common cause of bulb failure is vibration. With some systems the bulb caps don't contact the bulb contacts very firmly, allowing the bulbs to move slightly in their mountings, producing a vibration effect.

I have noticed on my Norge that the high, low beam switch on the handlebar can screw up after a good washing. What happens is the high beam will not work, total darkness (could this be lucas electrics?). After a few flicks of the switch it all works as normal. I can only assume that water gets between the contacts and needs to be cleared out. So in your case I would check for that before replacing the bulbs, seeing as you said this happens when it is ridden in the rain.

As far as your fuel pump, mine too made a sort of howling noise for a while. I can not remember if it happened when it rained, i almost think it happened all the time. It now seems to be quiet, or I have just gotten used to it.

You need to suirt some contact cleaner and water dispersant spray into the switch, such as Servisol. I actually took the switch unit off the bars and lubricated the whole thing. No problems since.

Thanks guys. Will check out the switch this weekend. Starting to wonder if it might not be the fuel pump. Got caught in some rain this morning riding home from work, noise seems to be coming from the front of the motor. Wonder if it might be the alternator belt. See what I can find out.
