Normal current draw from Bosch starter

The starter is drawing 70A while cranking, I was wondering what is normal/acceptable.

I tuned up my starter on the LeMans, i.e cleaned brushes, rotor and the contacts inside the solenoid.
It's working much better, and the bike fires immediately so it's not as if I'm running the starter for any length of time but either it's killing my battery or the battery itself can't keep up with the load. If I run an errand for example, I end up push starting...
The battery is only a year old but likely an offshore brand. I'll be load testing it later on.

Wiring is all in good condition, I also checked my rectifier diodes and rotor resistance, the charging is working well.

Have you looked at what the Norge draws when starting? I'd say that should give you a reference that you'd expect not to reach on a bike with a smaller engine...

 The Norge is apart right now René, airbox, LH header etc. I'm not sure of the values of the Bosch vs. Norge starter anyway...

Thanks
btw now is your Norge doing? I read you were still waiting on the insurance claim. That's crazy!

No it won't. The Bosch starters were superseded by the Valeo as they draw less amperage to start the bike. Bikes that used the Bosch starter were fitted with 30 amp batteries to help handle the starter draw. Once the Valeo came along, smaller batteries could be used. Probably the closest comparison would be the starter draw of the old air cooled VW beetle. The Bosch starter on a Guzzi drawing 70 amps under load doesn't surprise me.

There you go, I knew someone would come up with the math B)

I'll check the battery this week, I have a feeling it just doesn't have the capacity.

Thanks for your help!

She's fine, though still patched up. To the insurance's discharge, they had to waith until February to get the statement from the Spanish police, finally. But since then they could have accelerated the thing! Guess I should have called them every other day, but it's a special number I have to request when at work ... which I always forget until it's too late...
I guess I'll go see my dealer this week, to tell him to order ... and hoping I'm not condemning myself to be obliged to sell the bike afterwards!
