I was able to get the recommended AGIP oil directly from AGIP, but had to buy a case. I don't really want to purchase a whole case of oil for the CARC and the transmission so I was wondering what brands and weights people are putting in their Griso's shafts.

Thanks

So what is the difference between the two recommended oils? What makes "truck gear" oil different from "ROTRA MP/S"?

Transmission fluid RECOMMENDED: TRUCK GEAR 80 W 90
Gearbox fluid RECOMMENDED: ROTRA MP/S 85 W 90

I have tried to search to see equivalents from mobil1 and amsoil and so far don't see anything that can be correlated as a one to one match. I'm sure I am making this more complicated than necessary but I don't want to use an oil that may be lacking some property that will decrease the life of the trans/gearbox

Thanks

One oil is designed for a differential, the other for a gearbox.
At the risk of starting a new oil discussion, I use full synthetic hypoid 75W90 in both (gearbox and final drive) on my 1100 sporti and will do the same on my Griso 8V in the future.

What he said.

Don't die in a ditch over it. The gearbox is straight cut, the bevelbox has a spiral bevel. At the end of the day though any high quality gear oil will do the job. Just try and get a full synth 75/90, Mobil make one sold as 'Motorbike Gear Oil' or some such but virtually any reputable manufacturer will have something that fits the bill.

You can tell the difference by the smell of the oil...

What I have switched to is a lubricant that I have been using since 1993 in everything I own. From engine to trans to diff you don't mind me saying, I have yet to find anything to come close to this. Reason for my switch is that in our 410 Sprint Car engine we noticed a huge difference. I used it in my old VW Quantum that made some noise in the lower end and after 1000 or so miles the noise vanished and the car went to 255,000 miles prior to needing new strut and, new clutch, so I decided to let her die peacefully in a auto salvage yard.
I could tell you even more of other vehicles that use or had used it but I won't go into it.
Royal Purple is the name of the lubricants used. It won't foam and won't break down, slicker than anything I came across even after 15,000 miles using K&N filter.
And yes I and we had used AMSOIL, Mobil1 etc.
Wonderful stuff it is.
No, I am not a dealer or a representative of Royal Purple.
